Fresh Produce: ICE Lift V8 Seatpost
We’ve been searching for a bargain priced yet quality adjustable seatpost for ages, and now we think we’ve found one…
ICE (In Case of Emergency) are a new French company who have a pretty random selection of products on offer. The reason for that though seems to be that they’re picking a few standout products from the vast array of stuff that comes out of the Far East, and then tweaking them slightly to make them even better. We reckon they might have struck gold with this Lift V8 seatpost.
Ok, so it’s no Reverb, but at a fraction of the price it was never going to be. That said, we think a load of riders will love the simplicity of this post, there really doesn’t appear to be anything to go wrong. Whoever designed it has rather cheekily picked out some of the best bits from other designs and then pieced them together in order to come up with this post. The main mechanism is basically the same as a Gravity Dropper, i.e. it uses a very simple mechanical spring to control the up and down movement, and then each of the three positions (fully up, 45mm drop, and 90mm drop) are ‘locked’ with the aid of a pin that goes into hole. It really is incredibly simple and although the design may not offer the silky smooth infinite adjustment of a hydraulic design, over the years it has proved to be amazingly reliable. There really is very little, if anything, to go wrong.
The other features of the post that impress us are that the cable is mounted to the stationary part of the post and exits at a good angle, so there’s none of that baggy cable thing going on. The saddle clamp is also a well proven design which allows precise adjustment. The rubber boot which takes care of sealing duties is fixed in place at both ends so it should do a fine job. And, it’s great to see a post coming in a 27.2mm size (it does also come with either a 30.9 or 31.6mm shim).
Finally, the other thing which we really like is the handlebar release lever which is an almost perfect copy of the old Crank Brothers one. Why they ever got rid of this design is a mystery to us as we think it’s easily one of the best. The fact that it can be pushed in any direction means that you have almost endless mounting options, and unlike other designs it is almost impossible to break in a crash. The lever uses a standard gear cable which is pretty easy to fit, and then fine tuning of the cable tension can be done via the in-line adjuster. Again, dead simple.
In terms of operation it is unsurprisingly very similar to a Gravity Dropper in that you have to weight your seat in order for you to raise it up. This is to help release the pin, and whist it might sound a little awkward you get used to it very quickly. You can adjust the return speed by simply turning (with a 6mm allen key) the spring preload at the bottom of the post, but even on the slowest setting it’s still pretty quick. That’s not really a problem though because if you push the lever without any weight on the saddle it won’t shoot up and smash your balls in, instead you have to momentarily sit on the seat, and then it safely comes up with you.
Overall then we reckon this is a great addition to the adjustable seatpost game. At 543g all in it’s not even that heavy, plus side to side movement is pretty much non-existent. If any play does start to become apparent though then the post even comes with some spare bushings which are a doddle to fit. Yes we would like to see a bit more adjustment than 90mm, but unless you’re particularly tall you should still find that this post offers you enough, and it’s certainly better than a fixed post.
Price: £120.00

Are you able to fit the lever to an existing Gravity Dropper post?
I can’t see why you wouldn’t be able to, it should give enough cable pull. I’ve actually used the old Crank Brothers lever on a couple of different posts and it has always worked fine.
@elcorko cheapest adjustable seatpost about? http://t.co/crdLkWK6
I think that this is improved version of Forca post that german company has been selling for couple of years. I’ve had one for year and half. It’s ok. Mine doesn’t like muddy conditions, but this never model might be better at it with GD style protection. Here’s that german version http://www.forca-sports.de/?p=63
I got the german version too since about a year and it works perfect and is very easy so service. Btw its light and cheap. I don t need a expensive post.
Problem is, 90mm is simply not enough. Plus £120 isn’t that much less than the £160 Reverb you can pick up from Germany!
RT @DirtMagazine: Fancy a bargain adjustable seatpost? Or for that matter a 27.2mm one… http://t.co/URcHFV0i

It’s under 100 euro on alltricks which makes a lot of sense, half the price of a reverb. Know 2 guys with one, they reckon it’s so simple to service it should last for ages. Defo picking one up for my hardtail. 90mm might not be enough for full on enduro racing, but is more than enough for messing about.
Seriesly, Carl Peachey, sadles don’t bite, have you seen Steve peats seatpost? Seatdroppers gives you more freedom but true comfort is still all about getting used to knowing where the sadles at, not just taking it away.
Check out El Gallo: http://elgallocomponents.com/productos/tijas/telescopic-seatpost-lift-to-the-top-tija-telescopica-lift/ I think this was the first one. It has 100mm on sale you can get it for 100Euro and it’s only 450g. Also the cable fitting is crap. The cable snaps to easily. Check out this site where they did an DIY improvement (it’s in Polish, but pictures are self explaining) http://emtb.pl/emtb/sprzet/test-regulowanej-sztycy-el-gallo/

@ Carl
There is a new 110mm version as far as i know. It s called Forca SPS400.
I don t believe the 450g for the El Gallo seatpost because i got a Forca myself and the weight is around 560g and it looks just like the El Gallo. I bet it s the same seatpost just from another brand.
Anyone know what warranty you get with these seat posts ???
Cheers
I work for R53 sport. The UK importer for ICE. Yes there are similar products out there but you won’t get warranty and good luck going back and forth to Poland/Germany or where ever. The ICE products are all improved over the standard product and come with a UK warranty. I am waiting to hear what the warranty period is and I will post here as soon as it’s confirmed. Thanks.
Hardly fresh…this is identical to the “Traildrop” previously offered by bigmassive developments.

The remote unit pictured above failed on their version (cable snapped at handlebar switch insert) and they had to recall and replace with a similar looking but different post entry version.
p.s. the boot is mounted upside down in your image, leaving the seal above the red collar mid-post completely exposed. Not recommended!
Thanks for your informed feedback nvp. Unfortunately you are wrong….
This is the revised ICE dropper seatpost. The boot is now part of the collar with a seal in the collar too. It is not upside down!
As I said before, there are other similar seatposts out there, as there are also similar products to every other product out there. ICE improve their products beyond standard before releasing them onto the market. The remote switch is different to the one supplied on these. Ours is compatible with a gear cable and is in fact supplied with one in the cable assembly and we have had zero failures of this cable unit. Thanks anyway….
I’m 6’7″ and there’s 10″ difference between my proper XC seat height and my DH seat height. Does anyone know of a dropper post that will suit me at a reasonable cost? I know about the RASE post, but I heard that they come with plenty of play and boy are they expensive.
@Bigbird, actually yes, this RASE seatpost offers 11 inches of movement!! check this out http://www.rasebike.com/rapid.htm
Think ill stick with my reverb, I do believe the price of products are way over inflated due to corporate greed etc, but to certain extent you do pay for what you get and this to me looks like a ” install, ride n chuck away” jobby. And if I was in the market for a post I’d rather save the extra and buy a RS….better in the long run
Here you can buy it: http://www.flowbikestore.com/index.php?route=product/manufacturer&manufacturer_id=69
Just bought one for £90 posted from probikeshop.com in France.
the same product has been available for quite a while, just with another brand sticker

Follow up: Finally someone is doing a good job: 100 euros got me the post in 27.2mm and 2 shims to fit 30mm (bought) and 30.9mm (in box). Comes with 2 spare guide pieces for when it needs a service. Very little play, easy install, works perfect. My commuting hardtail is roughly 23x more fun now. If it survives over 2 years then its a 5/5 product for me at this price.
actually i think all of this seatpost i.e. FORCA, ICE LIFT, are THE SAME!!because they bought them from here
