2012 British National Champs Video Competition - We Have Some Winners!
The National Champs went down at Moelfre at the weekend, here’s your entries to our Champs video competition.
Three edits and three places on the podium. Who will spray the champagne with the £150 Gold prize? Who will hold the flowers with the £50 Silver runners up award? And who will walk away empty handed, drenched in fizzy wine and with red itchy eyes from the pollen?
Well we now know the answer to those questions…and in a classic judge style we have to say that it was a hard decision, but by a gnats whisker X-Trail takes the gold, Arthur K takes the silver, and by no means least Apatkinson gets a virtual bronze medal.
It was mainly the slickness of X-Trail’s vid that made it the winner for us, but there was also a good combination of story telling and action. Arthur K came so close to taking the win though as we loved the unique music choice and as ever we like a bit of humour thrown in. We reckon he also had the best action too and we liked being able to hear his reaction to riders. Like I said, tough call. Oh, and don’t feel disheartened Apatkinson, we also thought yours was a great little edit, and thanks to all three of you for going to the effort of putting something together.
Arthur K’s edit.
Apatkinson’s video
X Trail films edit.

All three are great – respect due for the work gone into each.
My favourites are Arthur K’s and XtrailFilm’s but the latter wins out for me for being a bit different with the chilled vibe and some cracking shots showing off the scenery. Moelfre might not be the steepest/tech track, but it’s a great place to spend a day watching some awesome racing, and Xtrail’s edit captured it perfectly.
X-trails was by far the best edit I thought, followed by Apatkinson’s and finaly Arthur k’s. All very good, but X-trails was the clear winner in my mind.
apatkinsons edit shows the real speed of the riders, which is what this track is all about. I was there, and it was strange to see dust coming off the trails!
You can do it too with kandoo hahahhah
Apatkinson for those long panning shots and not overkilling the slowmo!
I couldn’t do any better but….they’re a bit formulaic. Plus any viewer new to the sport would never know that women and juveniles race downhill. You could argue that people just want to see the Steve Peats of this world but I’m not so sure. Anyway I’m sure a lot of effort went into them and that’s to be applauded.
X Trail edit for sure. Something different lots of clean, crisp and steady sequences
Paul. The only ‘formulas’ i ffollow is chronological ,and pack in as many bangers in as poss. 1st I was skeptical of xtrails vid. Thought people liked it simply cos he’s used a nice camera and sliding rails. But after a 4th time of watching it I can see the quality and think he deserves to win. I like how he starts at the top and works his way down. Re the lack of anything but men’s elite – I was following the theory that they are the most interesting to watch and therefore make the most exciting vid. I did include a few shots of Rachel, and the tonstraint(set by the music) was the only reason I didn’t include a shot of mannon. Sorry I wrote this on my phone
*time constraint
And I did not mean to sound sexist :S
Fair play i think Dirt had it spot on with their choices.Gratz all
I’d have give it to Arthur. I thought x-trails was a bit boring and Apat’s was let down by shaky camera work.
I totally appreciate the notion that its the men’s elite that are the exiting races, but they didn’t start there. Paul makes an ongoing point that there are womens and juvenile racers out there who fly in their categories!! Would be great to see a bit more of it showcased, you never know, might actually help to up the numbers of those categories if new/less experienced riders realise that they might just be taken seriously rather than just making up the numbers
However, really top video’s from all three!!
