Next year, the RockyRoads UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano will comprise eight or nine rounds, each in a different country.
The season will include seven downhill (DHI) rounds, six Olympic cross-country (XCO) and five cross-country eliminator (XCE).
In total, eight rounds in eight different countries have been confirmed. A ninth round could take place in China but this is awaiting validation after the test event scheduled for the end of September.
The confirmed venues are:
-Nove Mesto (CZE): For the third time on the calendar, it was voted best XCO event in its first year on the World Cup calendar (2011). It is widely recognised and appreciated for its technical circuit and its facilities (it is a biathlon and cross-country venue).
-Fort William (GBR): It is the 11th year in the World Cup for this Scottish town which also hosted the 2007 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships. The atmosphere is legendary thanks to a large and particularly enthusiastic public.
-Willingen (GER): 2012 marks a return to the calendar after seven years’ absence. The World Cup round will be part of a large annual festival with events for the whole family, 200 exhibitors and more than 30,000 visitors over three days.
-Val di Sole (ITA): Organiser of the 2008 Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships and member of the World Cup calendar since 2010, Val di Sole will see a return of the XCO after a break from this format in 2012.
-Vallnord (AND): This small nation in the eastern Pyrenees returns to the calendar after an absence of three years.
-Mont-Sainte-Anne (CAN): This Canadian resort hasn’t missed an edition of the World Cup since its creation in 1991, with the exception of 1998 and 2010 when it hosted the World Championships.
-Hafjell (NOR): This is its second year on the calendar and its first as host of the cross-country events. It will be the final round for XCO and XCE.
-Leogang (AUT): One of the venues of the 2012 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships, Leogang will host the final DHI round, widely recognised by the specialists of the discipline.

Oh please come to Australia soon…Cairns! Thredbo?
I second that. Bring on a Cairns/Rotorua combo..!
that is a short but very busy season, shame it cant start earlier and have more races
China? Have the UCI no shame? Mountain biking should have nothing to do with countries with such endemic human rights abuses. Although saying that, we’d probably have to rule out Windham and Fort William…
Willingen???? Gotta be kidding me.
Haha willigen is going to be as embarassing as tha last time.
Swap willingen with Australia or new zealand.
Is willingen the same place as the track described as a “giant bmx track” in earthed 4 or 5?
no champery?
doesnt look to bad, but south africa again esp the worlds is disappointing. why the same tracks most years on the trot? surely theres more mountains and tracks out there across the globe.
As a German, I’m stoked about the one in Willingen, but I have to say, that the course is crap….. They’ll have to build a completely new one ( I think it’s not even 2min long, about a million jumps and not one technical section! )
I’m not sure what they can build on that little hill, but I’m excited!
What year is Schladming going to be back? How come rider favourite Maribor has been out the last few years? Bit silly having no rounds in the USA now that Gwin is on top of things, could only do good for the industry…
sounds like economics is the hardest feature to ride even a dh bike over. was looking forward to road trip to windham next year to see the world’s best. oh well..
you forgot USA!!!!
Forest of Dean is a tougher track than Willingen!
Looks like econmics is playing a part with a big bike festival there and they want to pull in the WC that weekend.
Yeh but the UCI dont choose where to go do they? The venues can ask to host a WC and then try and fullfill the requirements. But if all these tracks you talk about aren’t trying to get a WC then they wont get one… As it is I think it looks like a pretty good set of tracks. Look forward to it.
With a country as large as the US, and with as many big mountains as we have. Can’t believe we arent getting a visit before or after MSA. Like Ronin, I was stoked to go to wyndham (or anywhere in the states) to watch the madness. Rubbish…
Stop calling it the rockyroads world cup, we haven’t paid UCI but one check this year.
China is most likely XC, as I heard an inspection was done recently by UCI Technical Staff and it was far from complete, but UCI Marketing/Events want to go there, so they are giving them a chance to get their act together by September. As for other key events not being there….they have to BID for a race to get one! Many of the favorites didn’t put in a bid. It’s weird no Windham though, I reckon that was way stronger than MSA this year, and I know they bid. Just having one race in North America doesn’t make a lot of sense, especially when it’s half Euro!
See you all at Ft. Bill.
Don’t know what i’ll do if this is taken off the circuit.
yep, shame no maribor nor schladming but glad to see valnoord back. variety is the spice of life, or some such nonsense. i hope to be at the Val Di Sole race again next year as in 2010 it was just great. Fort Bill’s a bolt on.
Why not include South America? would be a good alternative
Why not China? Can’t bikes return to their birthplace?
What I do not understand is the lack of a USA round…is the racing that DEAD over there? Even with Gwin and the big american teams? Get your shit together,USA cycling!
The UCI get more stupid each year. Why start the season in June, it’s completely daft. And then make the timing between races so compact, rounds 3 4 5 how can the riders be expected to rest and overcome and injuries, morons.
Comon give us New Zealanders a round, we did pritty well with world champs in 06. And there would be a huge crowd. Correnet peak in queenstown maybe?(mind the spelling)
No champery, windham, schladming, Australia, Asia. Yet we still have a crap Europe bmx course and the extremely boring for tv south Africa track.
schladming should be back for 2014, after the winter games or whatever are held there next year
Well…I have to admit, this is a complete bullshit…why not UCI just leave the British Cup and/or the IXS cup as the WORLD CUP…???
I understand the bid stuff on the venues, but common…just 1 race in the continent America…?? and they dare to call this a world cup…? Heck, we need at least 1 venue in each continent….you don´t know if you are loosing your next Aaron Gwinn or just next Steve Peat if you don´t race them against the best of the world…
Now, put this into $$…why the hell like captain23 said, teams will need to come to America for just one race and the rest of the season is in Euro…is nonesense, its completly stupid (pardon me, but this is unbelievable)….the level is raising up in all countries right now…just as a example, take the crankworx slopestyle (yeah its far diferent from DH but focus on the point) out of nowhere a kid came in the show and took SECOND…. I mean, if this event would have not get to this place, this kid could be there showing his skills to his peers only…and yet, with the event moving there this year, hell, this kid and some others have shown their potencial…so more companies in their countries might get in the boat to help them reach the world series…or even better start investing in their grassroots…but until then…you will never know…
Dont the Mericans have a world series of baseball? Which round of that is held in Europe?
john – do you want a round of baseball? You aren’t missing anything.
