The Atherton Project 2010 Episode 7

Episode 7 starts back at the Athertons’ home in Wales. The family have their own trails behind the house which they train on whenever they’re back home, and Dan and Gee hit the jumps.

Testing out a new line, suddenly, Dan disappears behind a jump for a lot longer than seems normal, and Gee and Clay rush to investigate, to find Dan on the ground. It’s a neck injury, and it doesn’t look good. In fact, it turns out Dan’s lucky to be alive. It’s at least three months off the bike for Dan, which has him thinking about the bigger picture. This episode is dedicated to the fallen riders who may not have been so lucky.

Get well soon Dan. So far i’ve been lucky after busting my collar bone twice at the shoulder blade and a year ago i nearly dislocated it at the sternum. So my left collar bone is almost completely dislocated. also the concusion is nasty too. the last time when i crashed hard i was blind for almost an hour. you find out what your’re made of then. dan is an inspiring guy. as is tara llanes. Dan was lucky this time, but his strong will is something we can can all take to haert. Don’t live in fear but learn to respect it. Best wishes to Gee, Rach n family.

Whoa, I heard about his wee bump, but never thought that it had been so serious. From those few minutes of film you really get the idea of how mentally strong he is, I would find it tough being laid up like that for so long.

Hope you have a speedy recovery and come back stronger than before!

Dan is the Man. GWS Dan. Gutted to see you laid up…but oh so happy to see you talking.
Only in times of struggle do you learn who you are…in the words of another time..you have the “right stuff”. great to see you sitting up at the end of the film. All the best..your time is still to come.
Here’s to Gee for the title…I’ll be cheering anyway..!!

Amazing will power, not just from Dan, but Gee and Rach too. They need to carry on with their development at the same time. Good luck to the family, and anyone else who suffers injuries that prevent them following their chosen path. Positive vibes all round

Firstly, I’m impressed how well Gee’s performing at the moment, with the consequences of crashing hard so strong in his mind at the moment.
    .
Secondly, anyone else find it interesting that despite this injury, Gee’s not started riding with a neck brace? Personally I don’t really “believe” in neck braces – I see no proof that they help, and plenty of evidence that suggests they possibly cause injuries when you would have otherwise possibly walked away fine. For all I know they make things WORSE somehow.
    .
I don’t know who’s advising Gee on such things, but I’d think it’d be someone who knows their shit. So it’s interesting that he’s not wearing one. Maybe there’s some substance in my gut feelings!

Oooffffttt … and there was me, mega bummed-out about a wrist injury thats disabling me from riding for a couple months. My stupid little bubbling is nothing compared to an injury like that!

Powerful stuff, in an inspiring way. Speedy recovery!!

Good luck with the recovery, Dan. A friend of mine broke the top two vertebrae in his neck from an impact on the top of his head a couple of years ago. That was one of the most horrible days of my life, let alone his. However, after four months in a head brace he had full mobility and was back to full fitness well within a year. You can barely even see the head brace scars any more! Dan’ll be back before we know it. All the best.

Scary shit. Get well soon Dan. I hope you make a full recovery and can go on and do what ever it is you need to do. It also makes me glad a bought a neck brace, the amount of money we spend on our bikes, the few extra hundred quid makes sense to me.
