The Atherton Project 2010 Episode 7
Episode 7 starts back at the Athertons’ home in Wales. The family have their own trails behind the house which they train on whenever they’re back home, and Dan and Gee hit the jumps.
Testing out a new line, suddenly, Dan disappears behind a jump for a lot longer than seems normal, and Gee and Clay rush to investigate, to find Dan on the ground. It’s a neck injury, and it doesn’t look good. In fact, it turns out Dan’s lucky to be alive. It’s at least three months off the bike for Dan, which has him thinking about the bigger picture. This episode is dedicated to the fallen riders who may not have been so lucky.

Get well soon Dan,

Truly inspirational… All the best for a good recovery to Dan and all the other fallen riders.
I love you dan
Your my favourite atherton
to a full recovery and stronger than ever to ya, Dan!
Speedy recovery Dan, I admire how calm he stayed.
I gotta add that I really admire how tight these three are. They remind me of myself & my 2 bros.
inspiration! get well soon!!!
Top family. get well soon bud.
Get well soon Dan. So far i’ve been lucky after busting my collar bone twice at the shoulder blade and a year ago i nearly dislocated it at the sternum. So my left collar bone is almost completely dislocated. also the concusion is nasty too. the last time when i crashed hard i was blind for almost an hour. you find out what your’re made of then. dan is an inspiring guy. as is tara llanes. Dan was lucky this time, but his strong will is something we can can all take to haert. Don’t live in fear but learn to respect it. Best wishes to Gee, Rach n family.
Whoa, I heard about his wee bump, but never thought that it had been so serious. From those few minutes of film you really get the idea of how mentally strong he is, I would find it tough being laid up like that for so long.
Hope you have a speedy recovery and come back stronger than before!
hope you get better athie, guts me to see this happened, but you’ll be stronger and fitter for it! all the best to Gee and Rach too! much love.
Dan is the Man. GWS Dan. Gutted to see you laid up…but oh so happy to see you talking.
Only in times of struggle do you learn who you are…in the words of another time..you have the “right stuff”. great to see you sitting up at the end of the film. All the best..your time is still to come.
Here’s to Gee for the title…I’ll be cheering anyway..!!
Amazing will power, not just from Dan, but Gee and Rach too. They need to carry on with their development at the same time. Good luck to the family, and anyone else who suffers injuries that prevent them following their chosen path. Positive vibes all round
get well soon affie! and be strong mate.
Firstly, I’m impressed how well Gee’s performing at the moment, with the consequences of crashing hard so strong in his mind at the moment.
.
Secondly, anyone else find it interesting that despite this injury, Gee’s not started riding with a neck brace? Personally I don’t really “believe” in neck braces – I see no proof that they help, and plenty of evidence that suggests they possibly cause injuries when you would have otherwise possibly walked away fine. For all I know they make things WORSE somehow.
.
I don’t know who’s advising Gee on such things, but I’d think it’d be someone who knows their shit. So it’s interesting that he’s not wearing one. Maybe there’s some substance in my gut feelings!
Oooffffttt … and there was me, mega bummed-out about a wrist injury thats disabling me from riding for a couple months. My stupid little bubbling is nothing compared to an injury like that!
Powerful stuff, in an inspiring way. Speedy recovery!!
Get well soon buddy. Sorely missed.
I spoke to Athy in a gondola in the Fort Bill BDS and found him to be one of the most down to earth people i ever met.
Get well soon Athy, god speed man.
Get well soon Athie. Push on and get those life projects and dreams going it seems you made of strong stuff! Get well soon.
Good luck with the recovery, Dan. A friend of mine broke the top two vertebrae in his neck from an impact on the top of his head a couple of years ago. That was one of the most horrible days of my life, let alone his. However, after four months in a head brace he had full mobility and was back to full fitness well within a year. You can barely even see the head brace scars any more! Dan’ll be back before we know it. All the best.
Cripes, that was one of the most powerful and moving videos I’ve seen…stay strong Affy.
legend…simple as that. Just hope the recovery goes well…maybe lay off the digger for a bit hey?
Hey wasnt he wearing a helmet, if so how did he take it off? Cos when they run over, he wasnt wearing it, he musta taken it off himself, that would of been risky! L
Get well soon!!
Heal well!
All The Best Dan !!!
Arrrrgh. Needs new plugins but they aren’t available!?
Running Firefox 3.6.8 on OSX 10.5.8
I crushed c-4,5,6 and had them fused, Im all better! you will be to wish you the best of luck! btw sleeping in a halo sucks, and so does the torque wrench!
Get well soon Dan
Not my favourite Project episode to put it lightly. But like the rest of the project vids the team is very much giving it 100% & the finish line is getting Dan back on the start gate. In for the win Dan.
Dan, stay strong and get well soon!!
Scary shit. Get well soon Dan. I hope you make a full recovery and can go on and do what ever it is you need to do. It also makes me glad a bought a neck brace, the amount of money we spend on our bikes, the few extra hundred quid makes sense to me.
