Danny Hart's Champery World Champs Winning Run
Relive Danny Hart’s insane World Champs race winning run in the filthy Champery conditions. A hysterical Rob Warner and Nige Page in the commentary booth adds to the momentus occasion.
“How does he sit down with balls that big?”

“How does he sit down with balls that big?”
HE SOLVED THAT!
impressive
11.6…..Whattt the hell?!!! Awesome commentating. You Brits have that nailed.
Seriously. I got more goosebumps out of Nige and Rob’s comments than the actual run. I hope you guys stay hooked up with Freecaster for a long time.
his run is blowing up nicely on the internet
I shall never get bored of this, by far the best combination of riding and commentary for years!!
I just watched it again. Love those guys, AND, what a ballsy run for sure.
does this mean whe wont have a dirttv report?
his run even made the 10′oclock news in NZ……one of any sports best piece of footage and commentry! priceless.
Made the news in NZ, did it do the same in the UK?Maybe I missed it, but if it didn’t Why the hell not? the UK should be bloody proud of him
In my view, this easily ecllipses Sam Hill’s run at Champery in 2007. Yes Sam’s run was utterly remarkable but what Danny Hart did this year was equally remarkable with two crucial differences.
He stayed on the bike and he won!
@Nick they didn’t give it any coverage on the BBC they’re response was
Hi
Thank you for your e-mail. The BBC only has limited resources and has to
spread those resources across a great number of sports, including many
minority sports which other commercial broadcasters do not cover. Along
with the major sports, we make a priority of covering those to which we
have broadcast rights, and Olympic sports. This does mean that sports
such as downhill mountain-biking are likely to miss out.
We do on occasion cover world titles in sport that fall out of the
parameters set out above but it’s a case of when staffing allows.
Unfortunately the downhill mountain biking fell on a massive weekend of
sport – with Olympic sport including athletics, rowing, basketball – and
we weren’t made aware of the event beforehand or the results afterwards
by the body in charge of the event.
In addition, we’ll be getting in contact with our regional journalists
to investigate the possibility of doing a piece with Danny Hart.
Kind regards,
BBC Sport Interactive
Doesn’t really cover it for me, for example beach volly if it wasn’t for the outfits would be the worst sport in the world but it’s an Olypmic sport so it gets the coverage.
Is any effort being made by the UCI or anyone else to include Downhill as an Olympic sport? They already have track, road, BMX and xc, downhill is the logical next step and to be honest, downhill is way more exciting, demands more skill and is a much better spectacle than BMX, who is representin for the DH community? C’mon, if handball, badminton and fencing can make it, why not DH?
Imagine the excitement of a race that only happens once every 4 years! Warner would have a fkn HART attack!
@Stooky – I like everybody else got that reply from the BBC and was going to ignore it and sit back accept the bullshit reply, then I had a second wind and fired one back to them, keeping the complaint open, I’m set on hassling the shit out of them until i get a decent answer. Despite all the complaints they have recieved they have still not even put a single paragraph on the BBC sport website about Danny, yet did have resources that weekend to cover some bloody rowing event somewhere that i’m sure attracted thousands of fans. Word on the street is they wont be reporting on any DH next year as there is a world series of tiddlywinks which clashes.
and another thing – Google ‘BBC Danny Hart’ and you get a shit load of hits about an U19 goalkeeper thats hit the big time with Barnet FC – Typical!!!
Best footage / commentary ever, and I’ve watched a lot of biking.
Will be talking about that run in 10 years time, well done Danny Hart legend. Now where’s my DH bike, I’m off to nail some whips….
lets be honest though if the bbc were to cover the worlds, theyd probably get claire balding or john innverdale to do the commentary
compared to warner and page itd be pants
Are you guys Serious? The commentary has to be the most unprofessional thing out there! I cringe when I listen to warner. He sounds like a complete tool. The commentating for the events is one of a long list of things that make downhill unfeasable for media to have anything to do with. Awful commentary.
I’m not saying the BBC should cover the event instead of Freecaster or whoever, but they could at least run a story stating that GB took home 2 golds and a silver at the World Champs, the achievments of Danny, Manon and Rachel for that matter have been completely ignored by the cycling journalists at the BBC.
As for the commentary on freecaster, it is awesome fun, as its in the right place with a captive audiance. If it was to go elsewhere it would have to be toned down but even Warner has shown he can do a good clean job on the FMX show.
Never get tired of watching that – just plain incredible. Seems like the mud acts as a lubricant to speed Danny along – I mean how do you ride like that in the wet? I’d be happy if I could muster even half of that commitment in the dry…
A fabulous way to win t
“and we weren’t made aware of the event beforehand or the results afterwards by the body in charge of the event.”
Honestly, the UCI has not done pretty much zilch to promote the sport. I think that answer from the BBC was honest and spot on. You can’t expect them to look for sports to promote when there are so many out there. It needs to come from the inside out. The UCI is the body that’s responsible for much of this, and they’ve not done a lot. Downhill just isn’t high on their agenda.
I’d hate to see downhill get too commercial, but there’s f*ckall money about, and considering the skills, athleticism and hard work involved, these guys get but a tiny fraction of what they deserve.
I really think it’s time the chord was cut with the UCI. Whether or not it becomes ‘Redbulls|Monsters| Downhill Worldcup’ though… probably the lesser of two evils IMO….
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this now.. but my hairs stand on end every single time. Will go down as one of the best rides on a mountain bike ever. Incredible.
While I dont agree with it, apprently the reason DH would struggle to get into the olympics has nothing to do with DH but to do with cycling. The IOC will only allow a certain number of events in the olympics for cycling and thus would have to drop something else. Admittedly this would only be a couple of velodrome races but it would be a difficult ask especially if UCI arent that interested in DH.
When I ran into Danny hanging with Rat Boy last year at Windham last year, he was surprised I knew who he was. I said: “Dude, you are going to be the King.” He looked like he didn’t believe me. Well, you wee shyte, your’re the King now, even sooner than I thought.
