Dirt 100 2011: Fox Rampage
Contrary to what some might say, we do often have reality checks and we realise that not everyone has five hundred quid to blow on a D3, and that’s why we wanted to include this Fox lid. There are a whole pile of other cheaper helmets too, but we just think that this one offers exceptional value for money. Crucially the fit is good, but we think the styling makes it look way classier than its price tag. It also feels and looks well made, is a good weight, and both the pads and liner can be removed for washing. We don’t think you could ask for anything more for this kind of money, and we even prefer it to some helmets costing twice as much.

I totally agree, ad mine since june last year and i luv it.
your right, dont get me wrong, D3,s are very nice but the price is a bit steep, plus fox race gear rocks.
as much as i’d love a D3 or D2, I’m more than happy with my rampage.. and massive respect to fox for keeping them at the same price for like 4 years
Bargain helmets man , and like you say they look much more expensive then what they are
Telling this isn’t it, that we gauge our appreciation of a Life Saving Product on how expensive it looks rather than how well it performs in its intended application. I think its not so much of the fox looking much more expensive ‘then what they are’, it’s the like of the D3 being much more expensive ‘then what they is’. Same with my motorbike lids… though to be fair there is a noticeable difference in helmet movement (and therefore level of protection, and comfort) and sound attenuation at 3 figures plus…
if you have a half price brain, buy a half price helmet.
if you value your brain, and the ability to feed yourself…buy the tld.
stacy – really? D3 has very thin lining. I’d rather crash in some the/urge product for half the price. Though it’s nice to hype when you have not tried the product.
Without seeing a fair and equal lab test of all the major lids on the market it’s hard to say what’s best for the money… Or best regardless of cost? I generally go for most comfortable, weight and looks, in that order! Oh and price limits the previous 3
Ive tried many helmets, roadbikes, MX, MTB. D3 is one of the worst fitting(for me) and flimsy overpriced kit for the cool kids ive seen yet.
Take a slam to the side of a TLD versus a better padded helmet or which there are many (think MX lids) and you will fair worse. But you will get cred from the sick kids so thats all that matters if you have one.
I OWN A D3 PINSTRIPE AND lookin at the green fox helmet looks just as nice i could sell my helmet and buy the fox and make money haha
NZrox – fit is one thing as everyone has different shaped heads – but a D3 flimsy!? Gimme a fkin break! Its easily the sturdiest helmet on the market mate. And its the closest bike lid to an MX lid in terms of how much EPS foam there is in there which is what gives you the impact resistance in a proper smash.
The D3 is by far the best mtb helmet out on the market in my opinion. Flimsy?! You must be smoking rock NZrox. Seriously.
SO much development went into the D3 and it shows with it being a solid helmet. I can’t even think of a single part on that helmet that is ‘flimsy’. It is also the only helmet I have used that was designed to work with a Leatt brace. The venting is great, the emergency features (removable cheek pads, emergency info on visor, etc) are really nice, and the helmet is just plain safe.
As for the price in this case, you get what you pay for.
The d3 is safe not flimsy why? Because it has less pads? it makes it safer? You’ve got to be kidding me. I love how people fall for the hype. Tomac Rider/BT you can justify your buy all you want. D3 is a great helmet if you want build and great finish plus some nice details but it’s a thinly padded helmet that’s nowhere near as safe as some of the more padded competition.
Though it’s amazing how the old days name can still help. TLD was amazing 5 years ago when all the other helmets were faaar back but now you can have a comparable helmet for half the price. Not to mention if I wanted extreme protection for d3 price I’d just go POC. Their top end helmet is really aiming at top protection not at weight with a top protection sticker on it.
YES YOU RANDOM INTERNET PEOPLE KNOW MORE THAN TWO OF THE LARGEST MTB HELMET MANUFACTURERS IN THE WORLD LALALALALALALALA
my post was a play on a 1970′s bell helmet ad.
but its the truth.
buy the d3.
hell, lets be real honest, the d2 blows that fox piece of crap outta the water. and the price point is better than ever for a new 2011 d2.
@Stacy – Clearly trying hard to get a job at TLD then? haha. Give it a rest mate, you starting to sound like a broken record.
I’ve had two Rampages, own 3 D2′s, tried on D3′s in several sizes for me (none fits like a D2) and put on all THE’s, TSG’s and 661′s available in the last couple of years.
I think the Rampage is an incredible helmet for the price. The styling is good, the fit is great, quality is top notch (better than several D2′s), they come in sensible sizes and I can’t imagine why protection isn’t good. Let’s be real: no manufacturer affords to put out crap or unsafe helmets, because the liabilty is huge. This is why I happily buy into the D3 hype, or the V3R hype for that matter. I won’t buy a D3 soon, though, since the prices are still steep and the fit for my shape of head (nothing special, really) comes nowhere close the D2. While I don’t necessarily think the D2 is the safest helmet out there, it should be at least decent in safety terms, and the fit and styling (matter of taste) are better than anything else I know of.
TSG’s are great value, look good and must have proper protection, 661′s were always a challenge in terms of fit and qualitym THE’s are a dissapointment for me, if we speak of fit and quality (they only have one size and just different liners, come on!) but the Urge felt great on the head, must be safe and has no major styling faults except that cut-with-the feet visor and I don’t see why POC would build an inferior helmet for that amount of money, so theirs must be good as well.
Otherwise, everybody wants to be Troy Lee really bad!
