Dirt 100 2011: Shimano AM41
Their styling might not be to everyone’s taste, but with these AM41’s Shimano have managed to produce what is easily the best all round flat pedal shoe. They might just be beaten by Five Ten’s in the grip stakes, but the Vibram sole on these still offers more than most and it lasts longer too. Stiffness is also spot on, but the thing that really makes these stand out from the competition is their practicality when things turn shitty. Last year they were good in this respect, but this latest design with its smooth finish is the most efficient mud shedder ever. If you ride flats and live in the UK (or anywhere else with more than its fair share of mud) then you should seriously consider getting a pair of these.

my eyes!
who at Shimano thought “Hey, that looks good. Lets go with it!”? Looks like some sort of work boot, and an ugly one at that!
I have been lovin’ this shoe. Not too heavy and bulky like the 5 10 Impacts, super grippy and nice stiffness. Not the most durable shoe though.
prefer the white and green ones, but mine fell apart pretty quick
I friend of mine has those shoes, they look pretty ugly but the grip is almost as good as FiveTens but they cost a third of it
To be fair 5.10′s look like they were designed by the NHS. So probably wouldnt base my choice on looks! Would probably consider these though.
After riding kid shoes for years, I bought in to the reviews about the stiffness of these shoes. As advertised, super stiff. When in the right spot on your pedal these climb like clipless shoes.
Buy them.
BUT… Try them on first. That being said I bought a size smaller than I thought was right (sight unseen) and they are perfect.
