While reading some of the comments, I noticed that some of you want AngleSet for 44|44 headtubes (1-1/8″ ZeroStack, which has a 44mm upper bore, and a 44mm lower bore). Cane Creek has already developed this and it will be available April 1st. We’re doing 0.5deg change and 1deg change in this configuration. While this is not what Ed is campaigning for, it will meet the needs for some of you…

Right then…a kind of response from Cane Creek…
Basically they’re not the kind of company that says ‘yes’ without meaning it and so until they’ve worked out all the finer details (for example their machines are already running at almost full capacity making their other products) we won’t have a definite answer, but it’s looking very good to say the least. Like any sensible company they want to make products that riders want, and this has shown to them without a shadow of a doubt that this is a product that we want. Apparently their phone has been ringing like mad as a result of this, and some of the people making those calls have been from big (to say the least) players in the industry. So, i know we haven’t got a definite yes yet, but i would be amazed if we don’t see this product in shops in the near future.
So, a big thanks to everyone who commented on this, people power rocks!
Maybe we should start a new thing in the forums where if you’ve got an idea for a product that you’d love you write a post describing it, and then if others think the same they can support it…and then maybe someone might produce it?

Angleset configuration confuses the bejusus out of me so here’s technical guru Ed@Dirt with some exciting news, but we need your help…
Yeah like us you probably thought that it was impossible to slacken a 1 1/8” headtube, but we’ve just been on the phone to the head of R&D at Cane Creek and it turns out that it isn’t, one even exists! The bad news…they’ve currently got no plans to produce it.
Why? Cos they’re worried it looks a bit funny. Not much of a reason I reckon, especially cos the only reason why it looks a bit strange is because the cups need to be a bit larger than a standard headset in order to accommodate those fancy swivel bearings that make an Angleset happen.
Personally I think that’s a small price to pay for being able to ‘rescue’ an old frame (or even a new one for that matter) that’d be perfectly good if you could just slacken it off a bit, especially when you consider that many frames have such thick headtubes that you’d barely notice it anyway.
So, the question is do you agree with me, and would you love them to start making them? If so let us know in the comments below because I was told that if I could show that 100 people would want one then they’ll put them into production! Power to the people and all that.
Oh yeah, and if you’re wondering how they’ve managed to do such trickery in such a confined space then it turns out that it’s actually quite simple. Rather have the angle adjustment cup at just one end like the current ones this 1 1/8” version would have them both top and bottom.
Basically a bit at each end equates to the same as a lot at one end. Actually 1 degree to be precise, but we reckon that’s easily enough to transform many a bike.

Not everything has to be aesthetic in this wonderful industry! It’s a truly brilliant invention which is making huge changes to the way we spec bikes, for that reason alone it seems mad not to create a 1 1/8″ version.
To Cane Creek, you make the best headsets in the world, why not add another model to your collection!
They will need to produce 2 models for 1 1/8 Headtubes

Also agree with Dirty Dee. The Giant is 44mm zero-stack/semi-integrated, an Angleset already exists to fit the top, but only with a 1.5 bottom cup. I think you’ll see a lot more 44mm bikes next year so it’d be great to have an option on angleset for 44mm top and bottom.

Will it work to slacken a Yeti frame that has 1 1/8″ at the top and 1.5″ at the bottom – I doubt it but its still an invaluable option for many. Makes sense and gets thumbs up from me.

Yes, great idea. Is already being done by some one in Israel. Check out mtbr turner forum. Thread is 5 spot with 67 degree HA or less. This guy is using a local cnc shop to make cups that can give 1-1.5 degree change depending on headtube length. Looks like it works similarly to K9 fustrum but for 1 1/8 steerer in 1 1/8 headtube. No I don’t have anything to do with his business but have order one for my 5 spot.

It says that it uses 2 offset cups. I have a 1.5 angleset in the M9 and just the other week I had the idea of whether putting 2 offset cups would slacken/steepen the head angle. Not that I want to do it but was just curious. Has any one tried/ would it work?

I have a 2009 marin 140 frame. apparently 67 deg HA. My lovely spanking 2010 marz 44 rc3 Ti 140mm forks have a low a2c length.
using a friends iphone app it came up at 68 deg. WHAT!

Seems daft that CC don’t recognise the demand for something like this; many folk don’t change their bike every year and tapered head tubes are relatively new as are decent head angles. I reckon they will have a bit of a goldmine on their hands here, put me down for one! Hopefully they will offer integrated options too…

All this headset stuff confuses me beyond words, and my summum is already super adjustable… However it’s a great idea and the 1.5 one has got huge amounts of praise, so crack on with it please!!! Also does this mean that the 1.5 one could have more adjustment if they used the same concept?

Hell yes! Or is hell too strong of a word for this bloody site? I just registered to Dirt in order to respond to this link. I’m pretty sure that I shouldn’t say Boll?ks and Fan?y, so I’ll avoid them in the future. But about the 1 1/8″ angleset, yes they should deffinately produce it. Most of the new frames with fancy head tubes already have reasonably good head angles. It’s just those older bikes with 1 1/8″ head tubes which need the adjustment option. Steve Peat is my hero, long live the single pivot and the slacker the better!

This is what I’ve been wanting since I first heard of the Angleset. I was pretty upset when I heard it was for 1.5 or tapered head tube only. I would buy it in a heart beat. It’s the only area of my bike (Blur LT2) which I feel could be improved and the latest version has a degree slacker head angle so I must be right haha.

I would probably be interested in one for the dialled pa. If it will cost £200 it would be a choice between that and one of those 456 summer thingies or similar, this will be the issue for a lot of hardtail owners I suspect. Still a great option to have and cheaper than a custom Curtis etc.
I heard the guys at Works Components were testing the idea of this out right now too, that along with a lower cup so you can run a tapered steerer, so there may be more than one way

THE IDEA IS CLEVER AND DESIREABLE, BUT IS ONE HELL OF AN EASY WAY OF GETTING YOUR FRAME CRACKED AND THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMING A VOID WARRANTY!
Please make a standard 1 1/8″ angleset. I have two bikes crying out for them. Three of my mates reacted like it was the best thing theyd heard all week when I told them about this article. so thats 5 sold. Plus i work in a bikeshop and will happily suggest to everyone I see that this is what they need to fix an old bike.

If it’s under £60 then my 4X bike will be getting one. If you expect me to bend over for £100+ then CC (or any other company producing them) can get forked. I doubt £100+ for one degree slacker will make me £100+ better on my bike.

Well looking from the guy above and news back from Works it looks like CC are not the only ones down on this idea!
I just got an e-mail back from the Works Components lot (i already run the 1.5″ angle headset) and they said they will have them ready for sale soon and sould be about £60.00 – i reccon that sounds a bargain, bet the cane creek ones are double that!
Though……. you do have to have a specific size and with the CC you dont, i may just try one for the xc bike

Sounds good, I’d buy one but at the right price, I haven’t read all the posts but wouldn’t offset shock mounts do a similar job with less hassle and less expense? I realise this would only be an option for full sus bikes but would it work? I’m not an engineer, but they seem like an easy fix to adjust the head angle and lower the bb height a bit.

Well, I have talked to my suppliers today, (CNC and headsets)
If there is a demand for it , evenif half the people on this page would order one, I can get 25%-30% cost reduction on manufacturing and parts and pass it on to the customers.
New pricing would be ~ 160USD + shipping.

Plus Works told me they will have them available for around £60-£70 it looks quite expensive.
Theres no point in refreshing an old frame if the cups cost is a substantial amount towards a new one

well, actually i am not really in the need of such a headset, but i like this way of “creating” new products very much! Just find some hundred fellows considering buying a headset, and then canecreek is willing to produce it – awesome!! A good example of a company that “feels” the needs of its customers

Superstar Components dont manufacture or design anything, they get the Taiwanese to do it and just buy from catalogues.
Plus CC have a patent on the swivel mechanism – the only other way is the Works / k9 system which is HT length dependent so you need to make 4-5 different sizes for each angle, so lots of different small batches to make.
I dont think £65.00 is too bad, £130 though from CC, f**k that, ive signed up for the Works one, their holding one for me from the first batch as it looks like demand for these things will be crazy…..
Right then…a kind of response from Cane Creek…
Basically they’re not the kind of company that says ‘yes’ without meaning it and so until they’ve worked out all the finer details (for example their machines are already running at almost full capacity making their other products) we won’t have a definite answer, but it’s looking very good to say the least. Like any sensible company they want to make products that riders want, and this has shown to them without a shadow of a doubt that this is a product that we want. Apparently their phone has been ringing like mad as a result of this, and some of the people making those calls have been from big (to say the least) players in the industry. So, i know we haven’t got a definite yes yet, but i would be amazed if we don’t see this product in shops in the near future.
So, a big thanks to everyone who commented on this, people power rocks!
Maybe we should start a new thing in the forums where if you’ve got an idea for a product that you’d love you write a post describing it, and then if others think the same they can support it…and then maybe someone might produce it?

I already have the Works 1.5″ cup on my 951 so i assumed they would be the same and come with cane creek IS3 bearings installed and top and bottom races with their own top-cap, i may a have to ask though to make sure.

I’ve been waiting on this for so long. I’d take 3 in a heartbeat.
While reading some of the comments, I noticed that some of you want AngleSet for 44|44 headtubes (1-1/8″ ZeroStack, which has a 44mm upper bore, and a 44mm lower bore). Cane Creek has already developed this and it will be available April 1st. We’re doing 0.5deg change and 1deg change in this configuration. While this is not what Ed is campaigning for, it will meet the needs for some of you…
How about making an angleset that is built into the upper and lower races rather than the headset cups? Then it could be used on integrated headsets like those found on some Specialized bikes, most xc race bikes, and nearly all road and cyclocross bikes.
I too could garuntee an order of two of the baeuties – even if they’re at the staggering price of the 1.5 angle set!! but thats the price of greatness and black magic i suppose

You can buy a 44 x 44 headst upto 1.5 degrees from http://www.workscomponents.co.uk if you ask them – my buddy put one in his corsair.
Looks like there 1 1/8″ model will be out soon too, liking the price, i prefer the CC 1.5 model for the adjustability but there isnt any point for the 1 1/8″ as you cant go more than 1.0 anyway with that system – CC for 1.5 and Works for 1 1/8″ im thinkin.

Just to be awkward, I’d like an angleset for a onepointfive steerer in a onepointfive headtube please. Why should I make a retrograde step back to 1 1/8″ to gain HA adjustment?
I have placed an order with Saar, he’s a very helpful guy and managed to calculate 1.4 degrees adjustment for my 122mm Enduro 06 headtube.
