Just a reminder that you have only got one week left to send me your 2010 world Cup Fantasy Teams.
Entries end on April 30th, so read the rules carefully below and join in the fun.
The Dirt Fantasy Downhill game is back and even better for 2010.
The 2010 World Cup will kick off soon, so what better way to follow the action than to own your very own DH team?
This year due to inflation and rider salaries you have a whopping £600,000 to spend on your team.
The riders have all been given prices loosely based on last years World Cup overall results.
All you have to do is pick a team of 4 (3 men and 1 women) come up with a team name and send your selection into us.
After each World Cup round we will add up the points from each rider and publish the Fantasy team results.
1. You have £600,000 to spend on your downhill team.
2. Each team must comprise of 4 riders, 3 men and 1 women. (we’re getting a lot teams of 4 men, they won’t count)
3. You can spend less than £600,000 but you can’t spend a penny more. (This is quite important too, no more than £600,000 please-I’ve recieved many great teams costing nearly 1 million, but they won’t count and just make me cross.)
4. Choose your team carefully, the list may include riders who are not racing, or who might get injured before the start. You can’t swap riders at any point.
5. Closing date for entries is 30th April, so get a move on
6. Err..think that’s it.
7. No wait, one more…NO multiple entries please, only one team each.
So for example, your team might look like:
1: Sam Hill £225,000
2: Cedric Gracia £125,000
3: Wyn Masters £25,000
4: Rachel Atherton £225,000
Total: £600,000
We hope to get some big prizes…but we said that last year too.
Email us your team in this format:
Subject: Fantasy Downhill (If you don’t write this in the email subject box your team will spend the 2010 season in my Junk Box along with the viagra pills and money swindles)

If anybody spots any mistakes then give me a shout!
April 9th, 2010 at 1:09 pm
is troy brosnan racing world cup?
April 9th, 2010 at 1:26 pm
Sounds like it http://dirt.mpora.com/news/troy-brosnan-joins-monster-energyspecialized-2010.html
April 9th, 2010 at 1:27 pm
it would be immense if there was a little web app to choose your riders and keep track of scores through the season… save you lot of heap of copy and paste misery too!
April 9th, 2010 at 1:32 pm
christophe, once I’ve done the copying and pasting (I’ve worked out it’ll be about 30+ hours, ha!) I’ll post up the results after each round so you can check how you’re doing.
April 9th, 2010 at 1:36 pm
is it Sam BLENKINSOP (or BLENKINSOP Sam), or just BLENKINSOP?
April 9th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
why is rachel atherton the priciest female? she didn’t win or race last year and is coming back from a really severe injury?!
April 9th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
Oooh a tough one! Is Sam Hill definitely racing the start of the season or isn’t he?
April 9th, 2010 at 1:59 pm
Yep if its even loosely based on last years world cup results then rachel atherton would still be at the bottom.
April 9th, 2010 at 1:59 pm
Tammy, Rachel is the same price as Sabrina and Tracy, I think that is fair. You don’t have to choose her!
April 9th, 2010 at 2:00 pm
Do you have to pay for this?
April 9th, 2010 at 2:05 pm
Jonathan, yes it’s £10.37 a pop (cheques made out to me please)…Nah…it’s absolutely free…we must be mad!!!
April 9th, 2010 at 2:05 pm
oh Christophe, that sounds a great little idea re the web app. Being on the ads side I don’t have much clue on these tech apps, but I reckon there are some really smart techy Dirt readers out there, so maybe we should task you all to produce this app?!! ;o) So maybe over to our lovely Smart Dirt Readers. x
April 9th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
What about adding Jill Kinter to the Women’s DH. Is she not going to give it a dabble? Not to shabby on a bike.
April 9th, 2010 at 2:07 pm
Tim, don’t think Jill is dabbling in the full WC season, maybe just the odd one.
April 9th, 2010 at 2:14 pm
Can we expect a jumbled up mess of results and no prizes again this year because i ain’t playing if thats not the case, totally enjoyed watching my team capitulating through good results and bad math last year!
April 9th, 2010 at 2:14 pm
I shall be waiting until as close to the cut off date as possible…last year rachel atherton did me up a kipper by headbutting that truck a few days after I submitted my team!
April 9th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
Tammy, Rachel Atherton is full price because before she was injured she was reigning World Cup Champion and World Champion, and she smoked the rest of he women’s field at the last race of the year (I think).
Mike.
April 9th, 2010 at 2:18 pm
Kintner is not planning to do World Cup DH this year. When picking your team you may have to do some snooping around to try and find out if people are injured, etc. We still don’t know if Hill is fully fit. Maybe we will know more after Sea Otter next weekend.
Mike.
April 9th, 2010 at 2:20 pm
yeah, i think it’s fair pricing rach same as sabrina or tracy. just remember how she rode a couple of years ago (12 seconds @ schladming), there is no indication that she would not be as fast as before… yes, there is the injury but she’s all healed up now (i guess) and let’s face it, who on this list hasn’t been injured one time or another. it’s always risky picking riders, especially in this sport, but hey it’s free and it’s a fun. i chose rach last year and ate shit the whole season because i thought i had her 1500 points (give or take a couple of hundred) in the bag…
the big question now is hill, there’s been all this talk regarding his moto injury and no actual confirmation or denial and then the cycle died. just saw on his spesh blog that he’s eager to “get loose”… so i guess he’s ok… or is he?
April 9th, 2010 at 2:24 pm
You missed a T out of Dan Ather[t]on’s name.
I’m having a really hard time choosing… I want more money!
Just like real life then
April 9th, 2010 at 2:31 pm
Jase, you knows it!
April 9th, 2010 at 2:40 pm
apparently schladming has just been replaced by leogang according to facebook.
April 9th, 2010 at 2:46 pm
while I fully understand the price tags
Some of the women are well over priced syre the top women should start at 150,000.
April 9th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
syre?? who knows what that.
April 9th, 2010 at 3:01 pm
Olly, looks like you’re right.
April 9th, 2010 at 3:03 pm
Stooky, pricing is fair in my book, you’re guaranteed top ten big points with most of the women.
April 9th, 2010 at 3:17 pm
is it mandatory to have 3 men, 1 woman in the team, or can i go 2m 2w?
April 9th, 2010 at 3:19 pm
M-A-N-D-A-T-O-R-Y
April 9th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
The women are that price because they can score you big points. We all know that Sabrina is not as fast as Sam Hill, but she can score just as many points.
Mike.
April 9th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
Yeah Cee. R Atherton failed me, if only she’d had a helmet on/been looking where she was going! Oh well. Barel is going to be back up there this year – that’s what Ladybrooks are saying anyway. Sams dad William Hill is also saying he’s good to go.
April 9th, 2010 at 3:28 pm
will the points for the juniors like brosnan and buchanan be counted as part of the elite mens points or is it seperate?
April 9th, 2010 at 3:31 pm
Are the juniors in a seperate category ?, as troy brosnan is at the bottom of the list.if he comes first in junior is that relevant or is just mens combined and where he finishes out of all the men ?
April 9th, 2010 at 3:37 pm
Combined. That is how the points work anyway.
Mike.
April 9th, 2010 at 3:40 pm
ohh, this ladys ARE expensive haha
April 9th, 2010 at 3:45 pm
any reason the dirt norco race team not on this? Reid ftw
April 9th, 2010 at 3:46 pm
oh wait. sorry.
April 9th, 2010 at 4:18 pm
Where’s adam brayton?
April 9th, 2010 at 4:21 pm
He missed the cut unfortunately
April 9th, 2010 at 4:30 pm
£125,000 for Duncan Rifle… is that to pay for his haircuts?
http://www.uci.ch/templates/BUILTIN-NOFRAMES/Template3/layout.asp?MenuId=MTUxNjU&LangId=1
April 9th, 2010 at 5:25 pm
Nathan Rennie?
April 9th, 2010 at 5:46 pm
guess he’s not racing wc this season..
April 9th, 2010 at 7:27 pm
No Brayton?!? He’s going to kill it this year on his Legend
April 9th, 2010 at 8:40 pm
Billy! Due to the dodgy adding up you did last year my wife’s team beat mine!!!!! She has still not let me forget this so please please buy a calculator. I can’t tell you what the forfit was for loosing this comp. Lets just say people stare alot when your shopping in tesco on your own with a full face helmet and goggles on. To make things worse i actually had beated her by a mile. If you can add 2 and 2 together that is!! Roll on this season. Can’t wait.
April 9th, 2010 at 9:03 pm
wheres Jared graves? He still races DH right?
April 9th, 2010 at 11:24 pm
All this talk about Rachel coming from an injury yet as she was the 2008 World Champ the high price is justifiable, yet Emmeline Ragot reigning World Champ is cheaper? (won fair and square too)
Not cool … we need to give more credit to the ladies and not just to a couple of them!
April 10th, 2010 at 1:02 pm
Billy, why is the likes of Tory Brosnan etc making the ‘Cut’ but Brayton whos rode WC for a few years doesnt?
April 10th, 2010 at 2:01 pm
Nice! My team is complete!
April 10th, 2010 at 2:20 pm
What else has Emmeline Ragot achieved? The last few years have pretty much been 3 riders.
@Kris, You need 20 UCI points from previous or current season to enter. Brayton was out injured last year.
Troy Brosnan may have the points or with backing from his countries cycling people can get in as he’s a junior. I think
April 10th, 2010 at 3:18 pm
Why would you put in Troy Brosnan? I would back him to struggle all year. The kid is quick on flat tracks but no good on technical tracks. You’ll soon see what I mean… Look at his result in New Zealand recently.
April 10th, 2010 at 10:32 pm
Add Jack Reading!!!!
April 11th, 2010 at 12:05 am
Add Rhys Willemse and Shaun O’Connor
April 11th, 2010 at 6:59 am
I’m putting way to much effort into selecting a team.
April 11th, 2010 at 7:51 am
Pretty sure it’s Florent Payet and not Payent
April 11th, 2010 at 6:08 pm
Okay, make sure your teams are 3 men and 1 women and cost 600,000 or less! I’m spending my Sunday throwing wrong teams in to the bin when I should be out riding.
April 11th, 2010 at 6:20 pm
Billy when you put the results of the teams on website ?
April 11th, 2010 at 7:21 pm
I’ll post them up when I’ve input all the teams, gonna take a long long time, 650 sat waiting in the inbox!
April 12th, 2010 at 7:20 am
Seeing as you included Troy and Neko can throw in George Brannigan?
One of the top junior contenders this year with a couple of solid WC results last year.
April 12th, 2010 at 7:38 am
kyle strait weighs 25,000 pounds?
April 12th, 2010 at 8:19 am
Banga, I couldn’t include everybody (maybe next year) so had to draw the line somewhere.
April 12th, 2010 at 8:54 pm
I thinks its great you are doing all this billy, just don’t give a damn what the others say. It’s fab and surely alot of work. Thanx for the fun
April 13th, 2010 at 12:37 am
this is great. good to see Lew Buchanan in there for sure. Backed up with a great team and has the support. Reckon he will impress this year with a cracker of a result at maribor and continue it throughout the season. Deffo the top contender for the Junior wc.

April 14th, 2010 at 11:33 am
yo cant believe this George Brannigan will smoke all those good for nothing juniors,he beat Troy Brosnan by more than 3 seconds at oceanias.just thought u should know, and please let me have Brayton!!!
April 14th, 2010 at 3:33 pm
Brayton WOULD have been a good inclusion if he hadn’t completely ballsed himself up last year, so quit gurning and maybe get behind his old team mate?Baltic will surely be good for points on the Technical courses this season and word has it he’s beefing up a bit for the flat too,so look out for the pocket rocket from Ulster, team Dirt/Norco FTW.Also,Big up Billy for all the hard work putting this together.
April 14th, 2010 at 3:40 pm
Billy have you got a good spreadsheet to track this over the year? If not let me know and I’ll knock one up for ya!
April 15th, 2010 at 1:40 pm
DDMonkey, yip, ive got some sheet spreader that should do the job this year with no ballsups!
April 15th, 2010 at 2:23 pm
Lewis Buchanan is going to hammer the rest of the juniors this year. no doubt about it. I think alot of people will be expecting him to come out swinging big time in maribor. This year he will have alot of pressure for sure. watch it!

April 18th, 2010 at 8:40 pm

April 23rd, 2010 at 9:21 am
Scoring using the UCI points for each round, qualifying+final run. Worlds don’t have any points. Juniors are counted as elite.
