On an amazing track like the one here in Champery you won’t see the Parkin Bros holding back any of their amazing footage, which is why today’s practice video is an epic 8 minutes long!!
great edit, glad I stayed up, cheers billy. loving the Hives as well. Anyone else getting sick of Minaar moaning about tracks? I make that 3/4 this season so far…
THIS is it. perfect video formula. sweet tunes, amazing athletes, nice mix of slo mo,unbelievable track, a good solid 8 minutes of coverage. damn.
minnaar ain’t complaining, hes tellin it like it is.
and…..from that interview, he seems loose, relaxed and just a wee bit cocky. a deadly combo for the win.
He’s just sharing his views on the track. He’s not saying he doesn’t like it, but that it’s dangerous having such short jumps. You hear Beaumont say at the end how he almost ate shit because of them being too small…
Dont think Minaar should be spewing his agenda over and over at each track, but he does have a point. If your gonna take the time to build elite level jumps then build em longer so you dont have to brake whilst heading into a jump or else why even build landers if the top 50 are gonna over-shoot em’ by a car length. Lets see what these “elite” athletes can do! Agenda- Would make things a lot more exciting for spectators(viewers). $$Brendog$$
what a great practice run video ! well done guys !
i guess greg sees the faults on the track and likes talking about it for whatever reason.
like the english like talking about the weather, even though it rains all the time.
Minaar has had a bit of a bitch nearly every race this season.
If they’re all ‘elite’ riders then surely they should have some knowledge of speed control… thats what separates the top guys anyway.
Funny you don’t find him saying anything about the corners being too slow/short/flat/tight/steep.
He is a racer though, so all he wants to do is go fast. If he pushes it he’ll go faster than most guys and overjump stuff.
Isn’t that why he’s won so much. To be a winner you have to take some risks, surely
Parkin Bro’s we love you. Sick vid. Riding is cancelled this saturday cant wait to watch the WC.
.
Thanks for posting the link Billy, you’ve made my phone with an eye very happy
Tim, not realy funny as in fact the corners arent too slow/short steep.
Is he wrong when he says the jumps are too short for the fast guys?
The guy clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about, carrying that leaders jersey must have been pure luck. [SARCASM]
Greg is so full of himself.. nobody else complains more about how they are going so fast and people dont consider that when building… he isnt the only person that is gonna ride the track…
It seems that fortunately Pombo is not to bad! He wrote on his facebook that he was pretty shaken from the crash but would be trying to recover from it for today’s qualy
The outcome really looked weird… hope he’s in for for continuing his good set of results! (on the last 2 weeks he won the Portuguese cup and became Portuguese champion )
Ok. Im not a fan of Minnar, and yes he is often negative about sections of track, but he is only giving feedback. I dont see many people giving Jared Graves crap because he complains the jumps are too short/small at every 4x round.
How happy does Brendon look though? I would love to see a Hampshire boy win a WC.
fuck sake guys.. you’re all fucking hypocrites, complaining about gregs comments on tracks.. well i (and i’m guessing loads of others) am sick of millions of comments whining about greg… he’s the pro. so shut it!… on another note, that was an awesome video
I am sure Minaar is not the only person concerned by the short jumps. He is just the only person who has gone on the record so far about them. If it is gonna be a wet one then that changes everything anyway.
A number of points:
- Any reservations about the track that Minaar had would hold a lot more weight if he hadn’t already complained about 2 of the tracks so far this season. He was the only one we saw, although obviously that doesn’t make it definitive at all.
- As mentioned above by TimBud, speed control is all part of it. No reason why the top 5 riders should have to be going flat out all the time, making the jumps unrideable for most.
- As Doc Wat points mentioned about it being wet, maybe the jumps were sized to be doable in all conditions?
- I would have thought that flat landing a bit is far less dangerous than upping the speed through these wooded sections. I mean they’re already going fast and look what happened to Pombo yesterday. Sliding out on a takeoff when you’re going through trees at that speed could end up pretty bad.
- I know he’s a pro and knows what he’s talking about, but as far as I’m aware 3 pro/nearly pro riders have spent half a year building the track, and presumably know more than him after a day’s practice runs in the dry…
I’m not a Minnaar fan, but think those bashing him on here need to chill a bit – he wasn’t complaining, he was just giving an honest viewpoint, and giving us a good idea of how sketchy things can get at race pace
I can’t believe it…. people whining about a guy who whines….. like a bunch of old ladies!
Greg is a professional racer and I’m glad to have heard his comments on the track. It gives me a better understanding of what they’re riding. Just a “cool track dude” comment doesn’t actually explain it very well.
sweet vid!
.
i’m not the biggest Greg M. fan out there, but i find his honesty well worth the hear. His the only rider giving a balanced view of the track. There’s a reason they add those comments you know and it’s not because it is bitching. Honestly, i find it really interesting to hear what about a particular part a rider loves and what could be better. It’s been him voicing safety concerns, not stating “oh my, this track sucks”. Good to hear one of the best saying stuff like that instead of all going the SH route manhucking everything into hurtful oblivion I just think SH could learn a bit from Rachel A – for those of you who saw the latest Atherton project video.
.
and yes, sweet vid
oh, and yes, Neko better win this round hands down or he is officially handed the douche of the year award for being a smug basterd with a bigger mouth than he has proven the right to have quite yet
from my point of view its the same for everyone. So either scrub the jumps or gamble on the over shoot. Makes things interesting.
But he was saying they’re also quite lippy which at speed really is interesting.
THE VIDEO – WHY OH WHY OH WHY!!! WILL EUROSPORT NOT SHOW THESE VIDEOS/EMPLOY THESE MAKERS AS THE COVERAGE ON EUROSPORT WOULD BE SOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER IF THESE GUYS WERE AT THE HELM!!
That’s about the most compelling DH viewing I’ve ever seen. Props to the Parkin bros, and of course to all those amazing riders pinning it on the WC circuit
If the jumps really are as short as mineaar says… only one way to be quick. SCRUB THEM! And from what I’ve seen, Brendan is the one who will be taking those risks on race day. I really hope he takes the win in serious style… because this course was made for him!
All i can say is im GUTTED sam hill aint racing cos he’d kill it. But its still amazing, notice some corners have been made to not be as much of a challenge as they were before

If Greg thinks the track is dangerous he has a right to say so, he would know this better than us. If you check what the riders said about Champery 2007 you would here alot more whining about the track.
In the last WC run I thought his comments about dangerous parts of track were very interesting. Many other riders also complained about this and it was obvious many riders had problems with these particular parts in the race with lots of “unnecessary” crashes.
DH isn’t the safest sport in the world, sure, but it’s not about clowning around on scetchy dare devil jumps in some jackass fashion either. These riders do this for a living because they love to race, not because they want to show off…
Best video ever, Parkin Bros. You guys should be rightly proud of yourselves. I literally don’t feel the need to buy race DVDs any more thanks to you guys. Greg’s comments were perfectly valid but taking into account his conduct throughout this season as a whole, he is kind of pissing me off and I see I am not the only one. His comments detracting fromn Gee’s win were totally unnecessary after Fort William. I guess it sucks for him and the fitness brigade when youngsters like Danny Hart are able to beat him on true DH courses with zero pedalling. I like Brendog’s attitude a whole lot better.
Did someone actually suggest the best way to ride the course is to slow down? Sure you could do that, but maybe its not the best way to win the race. Minnaar is, by virtue of leading the series, the fastest rider, and he’s giving his honest comments on the various tracks. He’s also the rider advocate with the UCI – making sure those bureaucratic a-holes know how to evaluate courses so they improve in the future, as well as run an event that makes sense is part of his responsibility. If you make a DH course all jumpy, then make it so you don’t need to slow down to hit them or it becomes dangerous.
I also heard that it was Sven’s ghey wheels that slowed him down in the race.
Was it just me, but in the Brendog footage it looked like the video sped up, he was going that fast! Brendon for the win for sure, but then I say that every world cup. Best video so far from Parkins! Perfect mix of riding and banter.
Awesome vid, unbelievable track (was there last time, and it really is unwalkably steep, how they do it, I have no idea)
Sooo looking forward to tomorrow, it’s going to be epic!
Hold the bus kids…….I’m a Minaar hater most of the time, but if i’m not mistaken 90% of his comments were totally positive???? I guess there’s that big fat Number 1 on his plate for a reason. Also,, I reckon Pombo was seein a few tweetie pies after that one.Brendogs such a champion for the sport,a few more proper dudes like him wouldnt hurt, how stoked was he like.Nice one Parkin Bros.
Top Draw.
Parkin Bros keep going but stay with Dirt.
I have missed this weekend but so enjoying catching up. All tracks should be like this and I haven’t even watched the wet runs yet!

Who is Sven?

So many of the younger and new school riders lookin so sooo fast.
Greg needs to stop whining, does he want a track that you never need to break on?
July 23rd, 2010 at 2:24 am
Sven Martin the photographer, no doubt the Parkin boys have set up those comments from the riders to rub a bit of salt into Svendog’s wounds

Jack, couldnt agree with you more!! It seems like every race this year, Minaar has some bitching and complaining to do about track design!
Just shut up and ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He’s just sharing his views on the track. He’s not saying he doesn’t like it, but that it’s dangerous having such short jumps. You hear Beaumont say at the end how he almost ate shit because of them being too small…

Pombo’s portuguese (like me), he’s been riding all the WC’s this year and that was a really heavy crash. s:
Hope he’s good to go today, go Pombo!

i thought Greg’s comments were really interesting, he said he like the course, but also told us about the section he found the hardest, and why.

Gee also gave less than positive feedback on the track as did a few others (think Neko was one also). But none of them complained so hard..
Minnaar is a pro and I have no doubt he’ll send it down the mountain come race day.
But occasionally he seems a bit ‘F1′ in his comments

Fair point Mr Rose- if I was the Parkins-I would be negotiating a deal with both parties
Exclusive to Dirt for week 1
week 2 – eurosport for big bucks
Then as a viewer we get hit twice and they get a hit twice £££
