Pedalling at a Pumptrack? Agreed it should all be about pumping. As I was the British Cycling Commissaire (the event was classed as a 4x time trial) hence the full face lids, I gathered the organiser Chris Roberts and several pro riders to discuss the above point. It was agreed the second corner left you almost dead on exit, hence we agreed pedalling was allowed to keep the speed and excitement of the event.
Thanks for clearing that up Si. Do you reckon the two 180 corners need tweaking? http://dirt.mpora.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/297773_183540911722408_109472799129220_377237_1179992893_n.jpg
should have just dug it up with no care or concern like you’ve done in the past on courses Si…
Ta for posting this one up Bill – slightly embarrassed by how shit it is but what can you do eh? Paul Roberts was banned from doing any work that weekend in honour of his services to videos all season
Normal service resumes once he sobers up…
with riders of that calibre makeing it look hardwork to get round without pedalling – it certainly needs sorting to make it a proper pump track
It’s not actually that bad … it’s challenging … but it’s meant to be. If you want an easy ride you can go ride Stockwood (10 minutes away). I like how tight this one is.
@Jamie…I actually love the low-fi edit…keep Paul boozed up I say!
Nice one mate – that’ll save me some money, and booze
Expect a full season of shit phone camera BDS edits for 2012!
BEN BAKER LEGEND!!!!!!
Dont understand, Pump track challenge with pedalling………………….. should it not then be DMR pedalling challenge???????
Anyway Ben Baker living legend!!!!!!!! Wel done benny boy!!!!
Pedals bad . low-fi is good . Ben (Honey Badger) Baker Rules .
Billy, not for me to change a pump track but for the race the “Collective” agreed a pedal would be required!
OliC, i’ve had no complaints from anyone this year regards the Halo BDS tracks and the new lines we have put in at every course. We take all feedback and invite you to come to any of our dig days or marking the track out on the Thursday and Friday. I’ll even pay you for your troubles sir, just give me a call or e-mail anytime: si@descent-gear.com / 0121 423 3532. Si..
I’m with Torico on the level of riders making it look hard work. A track can be hard and tight but still flow. I’d move the rollers that are next to the berms, personally; it looks like thats where the flat spot is.
The comments are interesting but everyone got different views,
the race was on a pump track so you should pump but even at Crankworx they put cranks in all over the place.

The idea of the pump track racing is for everyone to have fun, young, old, short, tall, fat or skinny, anyone just having fun on a bike.
To do this its needs to be simple, we don’t want people going “hey he pedalled”, “hey he put in half a crank” just let people do what they want to do, if your any good you dont need to pedal you will carry your speed and fly round the track, for others they need to pedal to help them go fast. Who cares lets just have fun on bikes..
I went along to watch and thought it was amazing there was a lot of people watching great atmosphere and best of all lots of riders having fun.
Please don’t change the corners the track is perfect! Major props on Duncan Ferris (?) for designing/building a dope track that actually takes a bit of mental work to get around! – I understand what Si said and am not arguing as it was a great day! however I do feel pump tracks should be run chain-less for races to be sure there is no pedaling. I hope the Pumptrack series is carried on next year as it’s a great thing to have in the UK and is great fun.
Don’t worry Toff – we’ll be back next year – We’re already scheming about the 2012 end of season pumpy/party weekend. It was tooo much fun to be a one off.
£250 for 16 seconds work, about the going rate for a fucking plumber!!!!
