Dudes of Hazzard: Megavalanche qualifying
It’s qualifying day at the Megavalanche for the Dudes!
Today is the real big race for many who are on the edge of qualification.
Ten heats of 200 male riders and one heat of about 100 girls start up at over 2800m and race down the 10km long course. The top 3 riders in each heat gain rights to the front row on Sunday and the best shot at the Glacier and on for a podium position.
Most of the Qualifying heats top riders were easily predicted, with most of the big names (including Remy Absalon, Jerome Clementz, Nico Volliouz, Dan Atherton and Rene Wildhaber coming out on top and safe on the front row for Sunday.
In the Girls race Anne-Caro took the win with Tracey Moseley hot on her tail, that will be the hot battle tomorrow in the girls race. .
The main noticeable upset was in the final Mens heat where the three leading riders, Joe Barnes, Yoann Barrelli and Mark Scott suffered mechanicals and DNFed. Fellow Dude Joe is luckily a protected rider and will start on the 4th row come Sunday. Not ideal for podium chances but significantly better off than many other riders who suffered problems without the safety net!
