Duncan Riffle joins Dirt Norco
We are pleased to reveal that there will be a new face in the Dirt Norco Race Team pits this year. Alongside Ben Reid and Stanny will be Duncan Riffle.
Stanny:
“Personally, riding and racing bikes is something I love to do, I know Ben is the same and we both enjoy the opportunity to do this each week, we put in the hours to make it happen and have alot of fun along the way. I know Duncan shares that same enthusiasm for the sport and works hard. With a highest world cup finish last year of 14th this clearly shows, and myself and Ben can’t wait to have Duncan on board this year.”
Duncan:
“I have known Ben and Dan since I started racing overseas really, they are two great guys with extremely positive and motivating attitudes. I know they are hard workers and obviously rippers on the bike.
I can’t express how grateful I am that they have offered me a spot on the Dirt Norco team. The new Norco Aurum DH bikes have lot of man hours of development behind them and I am very enthusiastic to see how she rides, I’ve heard amazing things. As well, being associated with a name like Dirt really is an honor, it has been a household name for me for over a decade and it’s image alone embodies the essence of downhill racing for me since the early days. I am very excited about the season of racing, road trippin’ and adventures ahead of us.”

that’s 100% commitment
Riffle is a bit of a kn@b to be fair. Thought the Dirt/Norco team were cooler than that!
Dirt image alone embodies the essence of downhill racing !
I wish there magazine did.
There was a time when Dirt did DH bike tests, DH news, those were the days.
now all we get is xc/enduro
Dirt, for me no longer emdodies the essence of DH
Good luck for the season Duncan. cool team to be on. @someone, what a stupid comment. go play with the other kn@bs on a “29 inch wheels are for gay clowns” forum somewhere.
My life is complete!
Craig – to continue off-topic – Dirt started out being about bicycles, dirt and action. Sure, for a long while that was about DH. But it was also about MX, BMX and anything else good. I’d quite like a return to that, but I guess there are other mags that cover those areas well. So reading about enduro, and the type of riding I can do every week – not uplift DH – with a ‘Dirt’ spin is good to me.
I like the idea of Riffle being a team with Reid – maybe it’ll be more style over substance, but who cares when the photos will look so good?
@craig
I’ve followed Dirt for years and back I would say that the magazine still follows downhill as comprehensively as it can…the thing that has changed in my view is that BMX and motorcross have gone out of the mag and enduro and trail riding has come in. I’ve not seen any XC. In terms of content that is more closely related to downhill I would say the magazine has moved in the right direction. The focus on speed, racing and having fun on bikes is still there.
@Craig really?are you sure you’re reading Dirt! And not mbuk but remember it is the off season so there isn’t too many dh stories to report on..
@someone know him well do you?
Personally I think it’s great to see Dirt! Doing their bit to sponsor riders and keep them entertaining us every year. Without the sponsors and the riders and Rob And Pagey of course, the world cups would be pretty sh*t to watch! (Please take note UCI, redbull, and rockyroads)
Great move for all parties involved, D Riff has an awesome image and sick skills, especially with a tattoo gun!!!! Couple that with Ben and Dan and Dirt/Norco is in for a strong season!
he would be so angry if he was shafted from the team now !
Should’ve been Brayton!
jonzo – SO TRUE !
if the thumb downs i’m getting are from gay clowns; in no way did i mean to offend. my appologies.
2nd thoughts – perhaps he is not a fit for the team or has commitments. would be good to see Brayton get hooked up though……. come on, someone.
Should of picked up Wyn, that guy is full time entertainment.
Wonder how much he payed to be on the team, must be in the 6 figures.
Duncan Riffle is a moan, im glad he has support for the season as any top 20 rider deserves it. But I hope we see a young gun step up into the Giant Factory pits, I was really hoping Duncan would be given the boot as he is a bit of a waste of money on a time like Giant! Just didnt pull results you should while being on a team like that..
Its a good move i rekon, ive been wondering where riff would be for a while.
Riffle? Really? Bit disappointed tbh. Why did dirt not go for a up and coming talent. Someone where Stanny and Reid can pass on there knowledge? Or do Dirt have no say in who rides on the Norco bikes?
Be good to see what Dirt Norco can do this year.Ben we know your a flyer fella lets see you on the podium this year , or im gonna send you a solicitors letter demanding reasons why you havent..
on other news get your selfs around to Itunes for a must buy while waiting for the world cup to kick off …From inside out £9.99 HD.
Great news. Riffle, Reid and stanny all on one team. Thats entertainment right there. How long before Ben gets covered in tattoos?
Brayton for the Giant spot would be awesome. Come on Giant sign him up!
Will we see the thundertruck with Riffle inspired graphics, now that would be worth getting excited about.
I think most people ride everything not just DH, so it’s good to have some xc and enduro in there. My only issue with the magazine these days is the reviews of products these days. Or as they should be called “advertorial peices”. I say this because I read about how amazing, reliable, etc certain products are that I have seen through experiance of using them myself and from other people who use them are actually awful or very badly made. Myself and my friends don’t believe a single ord of the reviews anymore I’m afraid. However I have noticed that there’s been some really good articles in the mag recently, especially xc/enduro stuff.
well, thought you could do better than Riffle.. I mean, he had a lot of opportunities but often failed to show his ability.
By the way, WynTV has been hooked by an italian team, riding for Devinci, and he’ll be riding for them the whole WC circuit… no worry!
Riffle’s tash deserves a team all of its own
Why don’t you guys at dirt ask the readers to nominate who they think would be good for the team??? If i owned dirt, that’s what i would do!
@JK.. If i could like that 1 Million times… i would. haha
I think Duncan will bring a lot to the team. The novelty of Bens unreached potential wore off long ago, and now with the young guns coming through you cant help but think that if Ben has anything extra to bring he is leaving it rather late in the game. Hopefully the addition of Duncan will kick Bens arse into gear and boost the teams performance as a whole. The Dirt team needed a fresh face and I think Duncan is a good choice.
I wonder if my missus would let me tattoo DIRT on my leg???
you should pick up luke strobel…..constistant top 20 racer still with no ride….get smart
best team ‘fit’ for riffle ever.
makes sense.
perfect situation for all involved.
right, pay some attention to luke strobel you teams around there!
Finally it’s announced he’s off giant jeeeez
Been waiting ages to see where he was off
Von Dh you are such a weapon
Dirt sinking to a low there. Riffles a douche!
Now DIRT has a team of 3 guys who hit “The wall” and just keep hitting the same wall season after season.
Whats he done to his Giant tattoo
People dont hide the truth. He is not a nice person.
@canuk.. I dont know him so i cant argue the fact whether he is a moron or not.. He doesnt come across to well on tape but i cant see what he has done to piss off people so much that they would publicly question his nature..
Is he such a bad person that you would slag him on his new sponsors web site..?
To the guy(s) wanting to see a young-gun/up-and-comer take Riffle’s spot on Giant, don’t bet on it. That extra spot likely went to Danny Hart’s well deserved paycheck.
good to see how positive you all are as usual….
Riffle is a complete arse. He has bike skills, but acts like a spoiled child. Have seen him in person twice now and both times he was a twat to the nth degree.
great news
The impression Riffle gives me is someone who is very professional, tries hard and is good at promoting his sponsors which is probably why he’s managed to land some good deals in the past, rather than his speed.
Not sure why people hate on him so much, is it because he’s a hipster?
@stubob Once Brayton finds his stride, i reckon there will be alot of people falling over thier left bollock to sign him up. same for Mears
dont hate the hipster! i reckon riffle is great for the team!
when the time is right ben’s NATURAL ABILITY will shine
At northstar a few summers ago he (riffle) cut in the lift line all day long like he was special. Later that summer steve peat and minnaar came to the resort and waited for the lift like everybody else. 2 world champs waited in line. I will never forget riffle for all the wrong reasons.
The amount of negative whinging bullshit that goes on on this forum is absolutely pathetic – actually makes me sad at times to be associated with a scene with such a lot of bitching. The real ‘scene’ that is damaging mountain biking isn’t 29ers or BMX or which team signed which rider – it’s the seeming hundreds of keyboard warriors that spend their lives spouting drivel about people or products that they know very little about and undermine the positivity and life that institutions like Dirt and the DH World Cup breath into this sport. Mountain biking has always seemed to me to be an open and inclusive sport that bears few grudges and is first and foremost about good times and enjoyment – lets not spoil that with infighting and ignorance!
I know Duncan and he’s a nice guy and a sick rider. He works hard, represents his sponsors well and deserves to be on a good team. Congrats Dirt/Norco and d-rif! Kill it this year!!
Riffle is an angry douche bag….step in the wrong direction dirt
I’ve come from a skating background and a surfing background as well, (coming from South Africa) and I can assure you that there is in house fighting in all these sports. Ignore the keyboard warriors with their negativity as they seldom get off their A*se to do anything good for the sport anyway. Congrats to Duncan and Dirt and hope the relationship works out. Godspeed for the season to come and may the injuries stay far away……..Do dooo dododo Minaar Minnaar!
Thats the first tattoo I’ve ever seen that doesn’t bleed plasma and ink while being done.
Impressive.
Urgh I was wondering how long it would be before the meaningless “keyboard warrior” term started getting thrown around. Firstly, we’re all on keyboards. Secondly, those who use the term always have the unfounded assumption that people with something negative to say ride bikes less and therefore aren’t entitled to an opinion. Finally, if someone has a negative view on something, I don’t see why they should be any less justified in voicing it than if its positive. The internet would be a pretty boring, stagnant place if everyone was just happy about everything all the time. As for undermining, really? Do you actually think forum comments adversely affect the sport, despite getting everyone talking? Think about it….
Thanks for pointing out that we all use keyboards. The irony hadn’t escaped me. As far as I’m concerned there is nothing wrong with healthy debate and it’s fundamentally important to keeping mountain biking from stagnating and becoming dull. Straight up slagging people or things off without much in the way of justification is not constructive however and adds nothing to the sport. People who do so are leeches in my opinion..
@Jack “The internet would be a pretty boring, stagnant place if everyone was just happy about everything all the time”
I vote we try it, say just for a week, everybody be HAPPY!!!, lets see how it goes, it could be amazing, awesome, inspiring!
If it doesn’t work out I’ll carry on taking the pills and we’ll revert to default.
Awesum, good luck guys on the Dirt team for 2012, great addition to the team [DH 26ers still r we]
Happy=boring really? Im with billy lets try being happy and see how it goes?
