First run of the day, no crowds on the hill yet and still a huge whip from Adam Brayton under the old Tissot arch. I guess he just loves doing them!
Midge Wars, Return of the Midge. The past few years we've been lucky enough to have that small amount of wind required to get rid of the midges. However this year they're out in force and here Sven Martin models the essential gear, long sleeves, gloves and most importantly a midge net!
When a rider clocks you and your camera you can usually expect a show. Nick Beer took things one step further and threw one of the biggest whips I'd seen all day, getting so close that he knocked the lens hood off the camera!
Sheffield Steel Steve Peat will have to show just how tough he really is. A sizeable injury means racing tomorrow might not be on the cards. Hopefully he recovers quickly! Team manager Kathy Sessler tells all:
Greg can breathe a slight sigh of relief, Gwin qualified outside of the points allocation so Greg's opened up a minor lead. As we saw two years ago between Gee and Greg, every point can count!
Sam Hill qualified in 7th proving he's back in the mix. It's been a hard two years for him and everyone wants to see him back on form again!
Aaron Gwin will start tomorrow with the number 1 plate on his back, but will he keep it? While he might not have the level of support here as some of the UK riders (see audio) qualifying 12 seconds off the pace with 2 crashes suggests he's still got a lot to say for himself.
Tucked away out of sight Rachel Atherton spins up the turbo and focuses on the qualifying run ahead of her. Qualifying in first she's looking strong for tomorrow's finals. Could we see her wrapping up the overall title at the end of the year despite missing a round again?
Rachel's team mate Marc also won qualifying. Out in the open there were huge crowds watching the men warm up and Marc tries his best to block everything out.
The local Ladbrokes are running bets on who will win this weekend, who's your money on?
