Jimmy Carling our New Zealand correspondent has some serious news about a missing friend of his in America.

Ok listen up people, this is very serious. A good mountain bike friend of mine from back home has gone missing in America. His name is Jonny Dorey.

Jonny is 5′11″, about 182lbs, and was last seen wearing a WHITE AND BLUE PLAID JACKET, NAVY BLUE BACKPACK, DARK JEANS and BLACK SNEAKERS. It is also likely that he has his black mountain bike with him. He may be wearing glasses and also has a very strong english accent. Jonny’s been missing since March 2nd and the lack of news on his whereabouts is beginning to become unsettling. He is an exchange student at VCU in Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A. He lives in the GRC dorms and his bike is missing. He hasn’t been to classes, his phone’s been off for days, he hasn’t used any of his banks cards nor logged in to e-mail accounts or Facebook.

He’s been reported as a missing person and there is a Facebook group dedicated to his disappearance, check the link below:

www.facebook.com/home.php#!/group.php?gid=350577843749&ref=ts

Whilst this is mainly targeted at an American audience, if anyone – anywhere, recognises him or thinks they might know something, please either post something on the FB group page or get in touch with the feds. His parents have flown to the states and his brother has had to cut his NZ trip short to go and be with his family in America.

This is Jonny’s bike. It is a black mountain bike and is not at his house, so he probably has it with him. If you see it locked up anywhere, please let us know. It should also be noted that there is a red strip on the seat.

MIJ Downhill Events Press Release, 4th March 2010-03-04

The boys are back. MIJ Downhill Events are at it again, this year they have a 5 race series and are working with some other businesses and clubs to put on a few more races during 2010. Details of these will be released as soon as possible.

They have only been around for little more than a year, but already have enjoyed fantastic support from downhill riders and racers from near and far.

Also the support that has been given by Don Skene Cycles of Cardiff has been invaluable. Every member of the shop have been 100% behind MIJ and will once again be supporting the 2010 race series with prizes for the winners and support for the racers with bike mechanics and a shop of spares parts available for those in need of a bit of help.

MIJ are the team that have redeveloped the Taff Buggy venue in South Wales. All the guys at MIJ have been involved in the sport for many years and want to give something back to the sport that they all enjoy so much. A lot of their time is spent working on tracks and doing all important maintenance throughout the year.

2010 sees the start of the MIJ DH Race Team, where they are supporting two riders, Dan Bowen rides in Youth and Mark Jenkins in Masters. These two have been a great support to MIJ over the last year, so were the obvious choice when choosing two riders to support in the future.

The 5 round race series venues are.

13th & 14th March, Taff Buggy
17th & 18th April, Taff Buggy
19th & 20th June, Moelfre Hall
31st July & 1st August, Taff Buggy
4th & 5th September, Caersws

Postal entry forms and online entries are available at www.mijdownhillevents.co.uk

The major focus for MIJ is to offer a great racing experience in a relaxed and fun environment. Some racers have quoted the 2009 series, which included the Welsh Champs as the best of the year and if their first year of races is anything to go by 2010 should be even better.

From what I can gather in the press release, the guys at Reb Bull are producing a series of edits documenting 4X racer Michal Prokop’s year, knocking out an edit a month, hence the name, TWELVE. Unfortunately, I can’t make much out from the press release, but check it out below the vid for more info. This is the second instalment. The first one being the one with the hot gym instructor we saw a few weeks back.

Twelve months, twelve short documentaries on a long way to success. Trainings. Races. Travelling. Life.
This is TWELVE – a new project of the pro mountain biker and BMXer Michal Prokop. Rob Trnka’s camera
takes the past month of Michal, just as he has actually spent it. Without any adornments and planning. It
doesn’t aim to celebrate the leading actor; it wants to capture by its sincereness. TWELVE doesn’t create dramatic situations, but it catches them if they arise.

The February part will lead us crisscross through the Czech Republic with a short diversion to Slovakia. We will visit two bmx halls in Chlumin and Senkvice. We will remain under roof in Downmall in Liberec and also in one of many circuit trainings in oval track in Prague. With snowscoot we will visit the HEIpark in Tosovice and then we will call on racing tires on ice in Tabor.

Four weeks, six localities, three various bikes, one snowscoot. Marble, stairs, soil, wood and even ice and snow under the wheels and runners. Training, race, duties, and amusement in five minutes! The Czech- Slovak part has also its Czech-Slovak Superstar… The Twelve catches fire as well as rhythms of the authorial composition February by Jan Mocnak. This time the cameraman Rob Trnka had a hard row to hoe to manage catching all essentials planned by Michal…

“We could have saved some of the themes for future, but if we wanted to make the Twelve just the way we had planned to do it, we had to adjust to the Michal’s pace. Twelve isn’t any fictitious TV series, so what
happened in February doesn’t belong to March part. The way how Honza Mocnak managed to solve it is only
another proof that he is an absolute pro and it was a joy

All these photos were taken last Sunday, so it should give you some idea of what to expect.

PRESS RELEASE

Aston Hill Black Run Race

After the huge success of last year’s races, the competitive edge returns to Aston Hill this Sunday 14 March with the Black Run Race.
“It’s great we can do this,” said Rich Abbott, chairman of Aston Hill Bike Park and primary race organiser. “After the rollercoaster ride Aston Hill has had in recent times, we were completely blown away by the amazing response to the events we hosted in 2009. This is the first of two races this year, and once again we’re hoping to make them both as fun and as memorable as possible. We’ve got a re-tweaked Black Run that’s begging to be ragged, a great list of sponsors and prizes, and some of the finest riders in the south coming over to compete.”

There are excellent prizes to be won from category sponsors Troy Lee Designs, Nema clothing, Dees Cycles of Amersham and Cyclecare of High Wycombe, as well as further goodies from Bell helmets, KaaBoom and Continental. Dave Franciosy will be on hand to photograph all riders and once again is offering downloadable images free of charge to those who want a memento of the day.

In total there are nine categories, including hardtail and female, with each rider getting two timed runs. All race runs will be recorded by Mikrotime, with the faster run counting. The event will carry Category E British Cycling status (as per 2009).

Nigel Page
Former World Cup rider, 2007 World DH Masters Champion and current ChainReactionCycles/Intense team manager is on hand to ’show and tell’ how much fun you can get out of riding your bike in the awesome Portes du Soleil.

Ed Oxley
Runs ‘Great Rock’ the successful mountain bike skills company and will bring his relaxed and patient approach along with his passion for bikes and riding.

Our week of alpine adventure will be based at the superb Chalet JoJo (www.winterandsummer.com) Less than 1 hour from Geneva airport.

Cost for group riding everyday, accommodation, breakfast, evening meal and skills input will be £660 per person. Flights and lift pass are an additional charge.

This week is for you if you want to get more out of your mountain biking, by developing new skills and riding amazing singletrack trails and downhill tracks in a spectacular alpine environment. You need to be a confident mountain biker with a reasonable level of fitness to get the most out of the trip. You don’t need to be a riding god, but you do need some experience of descending and hopefully you will develop as a better rider who will take new skills and more confidence home with you. The group will be a maximum number of 12.

We’ll be making extensive use of video which we will watch back at the chalet to spot bad habits and chart the progress to being a better rider.

Suitable for All Mountain and Downhill bikes (cross country bikes will not be appropriate). You will need to bring full face helmets and pads.

Nigel Page has been racing bikes from the age of 10. BMX racing for 7 years and then MTB DH, Dual and 4X racing on a professional level for 6 years. So he has a lot of experience on a bike. He has also been teaching and coaching part time for the last 10 years. Here is a quote from a customer of his. “Nigel is that rare combination of awesome rider and natural teacher.”

Ed Oxley has been mountain biking in all it’s forms since back in the day. He is a regular tester and contributor to Singletrack Mountain Bike Magazine. “I’ve known Ed about a year, and in that time he’s managed to completely turn my head around with regards bike design and setup, and has got me riding stuff I never thought possible.” Brant Richards – Ragley Bikes and Nukeproof.

Some of you may have seen this @ icebike a few weeks ago…these have just hit the UK shores and are ready to ship.

Albert from Madison just beamed us this info over, at £399 for a complete bike it looks like it could be good.

Available in limited numbers featuring Atherton racing inspired graphics, the ethos around the bike hasn’t changed since the introduction of the original MaxMax a few years ago – a tough, affordable and easily upgraded introduction in the world of dirt jumping.

This point is emphasized by the use of the exact same 6061 T6 aluminum frame that is featured on all the higher-spec Absolut 1&2 full bikes. The new frame features arguably the most versatile dropouts on the market, allowing the use of a rear derailleur and pretty much all rear 135mm hub standards on the market (10mm, 12mm, 12mm Maxle or Singlespeed hubs) via the modular hanger/dropout system.

The bike also features Commencal’s new dirt fork which replaces the heavier 5pc fork used in previous year’s models, helping to drop weight.
