Fresh Produce: Gusset R-Series Black Jack Seat
We often get criticised for only featuring kit with mortgage inducing price tags, but to prove that’s not the case here’s a great bit of bargain kit…
Seats are always a bit of a personal affair, you tend to either get on with one or you don’t, but we reckon this Gusset R-Series Black Jack seat should please a whole load of riders. The shape is nothing fancy, but that’s what we like about it, it’s just comfy, and who want’s anything else than that? Gusset reckon it’s got ‘minimal padding’, but there’s definitely plenty on offer and it’s nothing like some anorexic XC race job. The cover seems like it’ll survive a fair bit of stick too.
Overall then we reckon this is a mighty fine place to perch your arse, and at 280g it’s a pretty respectable weight too, especially given the price. If grams really matter to you though then there’s also a titanium railed version which weighs in at 215g, but of course you will have to lay out a bit more cash for the privilege. Saying that, we still reckon it can be classed as a bit of a bargain.
These are the various colours that it’s available in.

Cr-Mo – £24.99

Looks a lot like a generic Taiwanese Velo saddle with gusset branding… Not that this is too much of a bad thing though – I have a similar (but slightly narrower) Velo saddle on my XC bike and it’s great, and I’m sure the old DMR jump seat that I love is a Velo design too…
Aren’t pretty much all saddles made by velo, just like pretty much all pedals are made by wellgo!
i don’t care where the style came from – i really like the black jack except for one thing folks, it should be white, things just look better in white, until they are dirty but who doesn’t like dirty.
