Fresh Produce: Nukeproof Zero Stem
Nukeproof’s new dedicated 50mm stem…
Nukeproof already offer their Warhead stem in a 50mm length but it’s essentially just a shortened version of the longer stems, whereas this new Zero one has been designed from the ground up to only be offered in a 50mm length. That approach hasn’t just meant that it looks a whole lot better, it’s also meant that despite weighing only a few grams more (176g versus 173g) it’s even stronger and stiffer than before.
Construction wise they’ve cold forged some 6061 aluminium and then machined out any excess material wherever they can. This approach is arguably the best way to make a whole load of components as the cold forging provides better grain structure than if you were to just simply machine it from an aluminium billet. All the edges of the bar clamp surfaces are nicely smoothed off and Nukeproof have also done a pretty god job of keeping the steerer tube clamp as knee friendly as possible with no sharp edges.
As far as options go there aren’t any. It’s a case of 1 1/8″ with a 31.8mm bar clamp, with either a black or black finish. We haven’t got any problem with that though, especially when the quality of the overall finish is so high and the price tag is so reasonable.

And here it is from some more angles…
What do you guys reckon?

stack height?
comes in handy when the steerer tube is cut short going from bike to bike?
36mm big man
Spank do a really low stack hight stem if you need one big man
36mm will do me nicely.
most companies don’t give the stack height, main reason i Asked
Where does Nuke Proof manufacture their stuff? I find it extremely annoying to see some people doing their stuff in Far East from worse quality materials (and all environmental and social crap that goes with it) and charging same money as good honest people like Hope who manufacture in EU…
I dont like the name. A zero stem to me now means a stem like the one Mondracker built which sits directly on top of the steerer tube. Still waiting for one of those to appear on the market, would buy instantly!
WAKi, they make their stuff in the Far East, and i am kind of with you on that one. I am not sure it’s fair to say worse quality materials though, but like you I’d love to see far more people making products outside of the Far east. It’s worth saying though that the hope equivalent does cost £75. If more people were prepared to pay that slight premium then maybe we would see more home grown products.
I agree the more people are that are prepared to buy from Eu companys the better. i bought a Persist DH stem ages ago, british company rider owned. the stem has some of the nicest CNC work i have ever seen. Shame they are not trading anymore.
