Muvi helmet cam: test number two

October 27th, 2009 @ 11:12 AM | Author: billy

I showed you this tiny Muvi helmet cam last week, and was intrigued to see if it was actually any good. Following last weeks carpark test I took it up the local woods to see if it could handle rough terrain and sharp light/dark contrasts of riding through the woods.
I think it did quite well, the 73 degree lens angle was quite limiting with some shots but have a look at the video below and see what you think.

I didn’t use any of the camera attachments, just simply gaffer taped the unit to various parts of the bike, some produced more stable results than others but on the whole it looks okay for web use.

  1. Nice, but how do you mount it to get the vid from the front wheel faceing backwards??

  2. Magic Vid guys.I’m so gettin one of these wee guys £54 inc delivery on play.com <am I aloud to say that??.Hey Dirt any chance of showin us guys how your mounting your camera & how to make a mount to make our own DIY 360 helmet cam surely we could make one from stuff at the B&Q???? <<<christ Im well endorsing the big boys here.

  3. Martidog, you might be on to something there, a B&Q sponsored feature…it’s all dead easy to make, I did a bit of welding with mine but I’ll try and knock some “household object” type affairs together that anyone can build.

  4. Billy your a ledgend stickyback plastic and a parent to help with scissors at the ready.

  5. Looks pretty cool… interested to hear how to to do the 360 helmet cam thing. Do you not think its worth getting the camera attachments?

  6. Really Cool little vid Billy, good work!

  7. Hey Allanajb, I don’t think it’s worth getting the extreme sports pack, just get yourself a good roll of gaffer tape and you’re sorted

  8. this is the front boom attachment http://video.mpora.com/watch/DE1zfx5wY/

  9. Mate of mine used the AEE version of this at this years Mega and got some great vids, just gaffer taped to the side of his helment. I think you can get them for under £40 from fleabay.

  10. What did you use in front of the lens to protect it on the boom mount billy?

  11. Didn’t use anything over the lens Tom, think it was far enough away not to get splattered in mud, good point though, it doesn’t seem to have a replaceable cover like some of more expensive cameras, the lens only measures about 1.6mm in diameter but if it gets scratched thats it I suppose.

  12. Just looked like you had a clear holder thing on the end of the bar Billy? Sure a old filter of a camera or similar would do anyway/

  13. Oh soz, that vid was with the Go Pro which comes with a waterproof case. Didn’t use anything with the muvi.

  14. Hey Billy.

how did you get the shot near the end where it pans ronu the rear swingarm then rises up to the helmet? it looks class

  15. Maybe it is small but the video quality would not be good enough for me.
