i think these bars are way overboard….. im sure someone will be running them full width :/
February 3rd, 2010 at 2:54 pm
ohhh, and i run easton monkey lites dh at 711mm. plenty of width!!!
February 3rd, 2010 at 2:58 pm
any idea on pricing?
I run sunline v1s cut down to 710mm, kinda regretting it though, my arms feel pretty cramped.
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:05 pm
How! Nice handlebars! this size i think he is great!
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:08 pm
Jon, awaiting for price and availability news, I’ll let you know.
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:10 pm
I’m with josh.o, Easton Monkey Lites DH at 711. Not into following wide bar gimmics.
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:11 pm
There are some taller riders out there who will appreciate the width, I’m sure. I know of a few guys who are over 6’6″ and ride DH/FR so these may be a good option for those looking to spread the cockpit out a bit.
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:12 pm
ridiculous! who needs bars this wide? king f##king kong?
peaty is a big lad, one of the worlds fastest without a doubt and he runs 740 which is too wide for me.
711 all the way
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:14 pm
cant wait to see how many sets of these bars bend/snap…must be a stupid weight too to have any strength in em
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:16 pm
760 is fine, wouldnt mind having a play with these though, but i dont think they’ll be much good locally, too many trees
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:18 pm
silly width, but fashion sells man! i was running 711 but just ordered some 745 sunlines on my new build, ill give them go but i think they will be too wide for me, im only a wee chap!
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:32 pm
That’s so pointless, i dont think people realise that its actually hindering you on all, but flat out wide cornered tracks which is generally very rare. Thinner bars allow you to turn the bars quicker and therfore negotiate tight corners much faster and smoother. I bought new bars and ran them at 760, but when i tried someones bike with slightly thinner bars i cut them straight away. I run 740 now because it fits between all but the tightest of spaces and is still good down fort william for the high speed rought stuff.
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:50 pm
Bit of a fad, bars this wide will go the way of 12″ travel forks and 3.5″ tyres.
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:53 pm
definitely too much…i’m riding now with fsa gravity light, and when i bought it i tried it at 800,but it’s definitely too wide..i’ll cut it at least at 760,wich is good,as i’ve already tried it..fashion victim’s stuff, there it is!
February 3rd, 2010 at 4:21 pm
maybe a bit much, but i run uncut sunline v1′s and they feel a bit small at 745. id porbly cut these to like 780 or so.
February 3rd, 2010 at 4:39 pm
Well I’ll wait for the FULL METER version, should be around the corner…or not
Meanwhile,I’m running my Holzfeller WC @ 700mm,feels just great.
February 3rd, 2010 at 4:59 pm
Crazy wide…..over kill on a fashion started by FUNN more than 3 years ago, havent they noticed the silly wide bar thing is calming down, just go look at Mr Hills bike…
February 3rd, 2010 at 5:04 pm
guys, just cos its not for you doesn’t mean there isn’t a market, plus you’ve got to appreciate that when we starting making the 760 ones everyone said we were crazy.
3 years later, they are the norm.
This is only being offered because we know people who run the 760s with extensions.
February 3rd, 2010 at 5:07 pm
many of the pro riders in the DH WC use wide bars, and this is a option to find your personal size…..just cut it !!
beter to cut a wide bar a bit down than use extensions on a bar who is only EN-tested for his regular size. I have seen this many times, and extensions are danger!
February 3rd, 2010 at 5:18 pm
I defo see why taller guys would run 800+ bars. I’m 180cm high and have rather narrow shoulders and feel perfect on my 760 bars. So if I was taller I’d surely go with something wider.
February 3rd, 2010 at 5:18 pm
I can tell that in six months bars gonna be sold by meter!
Mine is 765mm but i reckon that 745mm is far enough to everyone..
February 3rd, 2010 at 5:21 pm
Just changed from 700mm to 745mm wide bars and it has made so much difference, much better!
Not sure about 820mm, but if you’re tall/broad it might be just what you need. Can’t really complain before you try them!
February 3rd, 2010 at 5:47 pm
I’ve always run my bars as wide as i can for the last 10 years, even in the days when ppl where hacking 680′s. I run 750mm now, not sure if 820mm is overboard, but no harm in trying them next time I need new bars, if its to much there’s always the hacksaw!
February 3rd, 2010 at 6:09 pm
It all comes down to personal preference, but if you’ve got monkey arms then your going to get on with a wider bar..fact! I don’t think they are a fad at all, wide bars give you more control and strength, on a full speed Alpine DH track are going to feel way safer and on tech sections you can hold the bike on the line, you’ll feel the difference between 680 and 745.
Saying that there is a limit to the length before things become stupid. For example having a good size penis obviously has its plus’s but you ain’t gonna want a dick two foot long, no longer can you wear shorts, how would you store it in your pants? You know that little gap between your back tyre and the seat stay brace, well its gonna suck when that gets hoovered into that! Morning glories and random hard ons will now become increasingly difficult to hide, and the only girls that can deal with that kind of thing you’ll find on http://www……….!
820 is massive, 680 is retarded. 711 – 745 is great on the trail bike. 745 – 762 is my favourite on the DH.
February 3rd, 2010 at 6:13 pm
Oliver, why did I just click on your link?:-p
February 3rd, 2010 at 6:35 pm
I run 710 on the trail bike and 750 on the DH bike. If I’ve not been on the dh rig for a while, the 750 feels ridiculous. Feels great after about 30secs though, but quite aware of the proximity of trees on some tracks though.
February 3rd, 2010 at 6:52 pm
I run uncut 800 gravity lites and they fit me great. I’m 6’3 and 200+ lbs though. I have friends that are 6’5 that would fit these bars with the same proportion as someone 5’5 on a narrower set.
February 3rd, 2010 at 7:03 pm
errr. what about tight tree gaps??? 711 for me but might move up to 730mm for this season.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:23 pm
If your so worried about the length of everyone else’s bars, how are you going to enjoy it when you get your own wet?
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:47 pm
whats the f**kin fuss, no ones forcing anyone too run 820′s, its personal preference as to wide or narrow. so calm dooon aeh!
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:54 pm
I am running the Sunline V1 in 745mm x 19mm and totally love it – it suits my 5’10″ athletic build perfectly and has enhanced my riding experience on my 6 x 6 all-mountain bike which gets used for trails (XC), all-mountain vacations, and downhill uplift days…
the wide bar thing is not for everyone, but its GREAT to have a CHOICE!!
for years its only been 685mm, or 711mm, and now we have different bar choice, which can been trimmed down to suit your needs!!
a wide bar is actually a great choice for geometry “issues”, which may prevent you from having to sell your frame and buy another
if your bike is feeling twitchy due to a steeper head angle, a wider bar will calm it down
if your bike is feeling slightly too short, due to the top tube length, a wider bar gives an effective longer top tube (the wide grip stance pulls you forward relative to your saddle/stem)
in BMX, we had the wide bar thing about 3 years back, and I run a wider bar on my BMX, as it gives me more control and feeling of confidence
BUT, we see little kids automatically buying into the wide bar trend in BMX, and when you watch them ride, they are gripping the grip flange, and are out of control, being dragged around by the bike ( a sure sign the bar is too wide)
its like anything in biking, another choice to help you fine tune your bike, but if you bike feels dialled, don’t bother…

I run my sx trail with a 750mm burgtec ride wide bar, fits perfectly for me even though I’m pretty short (172 cm) and not more than normally wide over the sholders.. Tried to run a 700mm bar at first, but it just felt wrong.
My buddy, a bit bigger than me, has been running a custom 800 mm steel bar on his stinky for one season. Fits him perfectly..
In the words of burgtec: RIDE WIDE!
February 3rd, 2010 at 9:50 pm
these look pretty good. i have the problem that i love dh but am 6 foot 7inch (lanky) so need really wide bars for my body shape. i have currently got some spank 777 and there nice and wide but i cud go further. these bars are for a specialist few in the market (lanky fuckers like me).
February 4th, 2010 at 8:59 am
I hope a few brands are reading this.
February 4th, 2010 at 11:10 am
Surely bar width should be reflective of body size and build as a whole.
Look at bike sizing- a tall rider needs a longer top tube than a short rider, and he’ll also need to put his seat post higher, and possibly run longer cranks and stem depending on the type of riding he’s doing.
Personal preference comes into it of course, but realistically short people won’t benefit from wider bars in the same way as tall people. And it looks stupid too, just like the the toilet seat donning DH riders who just wear t-shirts. I just don’t understand- why not wear other armour, and gloves too?
Stuff the fashion side of it- if you’re that bothered about fashion, sod off to Brick Lane and ride a Fixie eh?

I ride with 900mm on my KTM620cc and that’s a-ok, feels fine.
In 09 I used a SunLine 745(?) and that felt fine to. In proportion to my dh bike’s height, weight and speed.
I used a 680 on my trailbike and that was just wrong after riding my dh, so upped to 740 there and that is really nice for trails now. Better on climbs (no need for barends) and brilliant at tight technical stuff.
I run 680 on my xc bike, and I’m old enough to remember the fad of cutting your bars down to 2″ wider than your shoulders.
I run a shop ad have sold plenty of FSA’s 800mm, and I would like to try these beasts. 820mm sounds fun!
I’d rather have a bar I could cut, than a bar I’d have to change.
I think maybe 710mm fans haven’t tried anything wider..?
And as for narrow widths between trees. What do you do when you get to trees spaced 68cm? Go around? You quickly get used to bar-width/tree-space ratios because your hands are there, and most of us have learnt how to judge where your hands are ÆÅ?!?!?+&% oops missed the keys on my keyboard, not used to the width of my new computer…
February 4th, 2010 at 1:31 pm
I’m 5ft 8 with shortish arms and have 685mm easton ea70 on the xc/trail bike and truativ 710 on the DH.
820 is just stupid for me but if you’re tall and have long arms then i can understand it. i’d go to 730 maybe. those bars would struggle with some of the tracks i ride. all the trees in the way
February 4th, 2010 at 7:12 pm
Buy wide, then cut them down till your happy. Job done. They look like you could cut almost a 3rd off each end and still have room for brakes and shifters.
February 5th, 2010 at 4:43 pm
im 6’4″ and run 787mm bars on my empire…. you definatly notice the width when racing places like interleithen, however i very rarely hit trees with my bars… and it is usually mates with narrower bars that moan about the trees.
i think people should stop arguing about bar width and band wagons and just do what the hell they want… no one cares¬!
February 6th, 2010 at 2:46 am
im gunna get 2 sets , because i know i will bend a set . watch this space
February 8th, 2010 at 1:22 am
I’ve seen a pair of these prototype ones in the flesh and they are crazy, but I’ll hopefully try them out full width. They’re very light for what they are and reverse make incredibly strong bars so no worries there!! One main reason its such a good idae is that you can cut them to whatever with you want. I ran 670mm bars last season and absolutely love them, I run 710mm in my full on xc hardtail and they feel amazing. Wide bars open up your lungs and help with your breathing too…go on the bigbars!!!
February 8th, 2010 at 9:09 am
for the haters out there, you should try a set of wide bars, running 780s after a couple of years on standard 710s – for dh is awesome, so much more control – even have friends putting them on they’re freeride/ hack round bikes too
February 8th, 2010 at 2:40 pm
Wide bars are good for high speed, but I have trouple on slow techy stuff.
My Atlas were 785 – get a steep slow corner where you turn em like 80°…..and you ened up with one hand by your gut & the other hand waaaayyyy out in front. Too slow, not good.
Tell us what you think
