The Trax are also happy to announce we are now a Bike Club organisation with funding to help take us forward to both maintain the track and deliver on it the necessary coaching and promotion required to run a quarterly racing league with local youth and young adults. To make this project even more sustainable we have also just gained British Cycling Go Ride Racing status.
Frances Chaloner from Bike club contributed this statement…”As the Bike Club Officer for London , working for the Bike Club Consortium of three charities: CTC; UKYouth; ContinYou. I was delighted to support The Trax bid for one of our Bike Club Grants, which are funded by ASDA’s Pedal Power Campaign, to help upskill the group and make the Club more self sustaining. The Trax initiative will bring lots of new young people to cycling, improving their health, education and sense of community in a very safe environment which will appeal to their parents. In addition, it will help support a fabulous new MTB facility maximising the use of a valuable community resource. The long term sustainability of the project and the large number of young people the Trax Bike Club will benefit, impressed the Bike Club Consortium and secured The Trax a Bike Club Grant Award. I am looking forward to supporting The Trax Bike Club, as their Bike Club Officer, over their first year of activities at Lordship Loop.”
The Trax are also delighted to announce our affiliation with the IMBA (International Mountain Biking Association) and their massively useful award of a tool grant as their kind support to ensure the loops and the clubs sustainability. The tools will be awarded on the day by Mark McClure, chairman of IMBA-UK. To find out more about the work of IMBA-UK or to join as an affiliate check out www.imba.org.uk
Evans Cycles will be supporting the track launch with a stall flaunting some of their latest offerings as well as raffling a 2012 BMX, various accessories and bike servicing with all proceeds going to the Lordship Loop and Trax club. Facilitating cycling and making it accessible to all is something Evans Cycles are passionate about and proactive in; “it’s a fantastic privilege to be involved in such a valued community project, and we look forward to creating a longer term relationship with the scheme” Leon, Evans Cycles Crouch End, Store Manager.’
“This much anticipated launch brings both a much needed community run facility for youth in Tottenham. The whole bike world and the local community are coming together to make this a sustainable venture. The launch heralds a new era of off road biking as it is brought to a new generation of riders in an urban setting. Hopefully the first of many, we welcome all to come and celebrate this historic day.” Daniel Mintz Chair of The Trax
If you are interested in setting up a stall in the hall, or donating prizes for our launch activities or sponsoring our awards etc then please get in touch.
The bike world comes to the local Tottenham community on Dec 3rd. Join in the fun. www.thetrax.co.uk

sick looker ! we need 1 in Satffordshire now – preferably Lichfield.
I’m currently trying to design a pump track for my garden in 3D CAD. not much space to play with, looking at 20ftx25ft… bmx only with tiiiiiiight berms. next step – try to find some cheap/free dirt.
I’m going to be in london for the weekend visiting some friends, will there be any demo or hire bikes available on the Saturday or Sunday to give it a go? Looks great
Looks good from what the photo shows. Great to hear about projects like this bringing accessible bike related fun to urban areas.
been down there today on my BMX…not so good
photos looked great but the track does not function properly as a pump track (lack of flow, too much pedalling) with start mound that does not create enough speed to tackle the first part of the track
its already looking ragged with a lumpy surface and ruts with puddles between a good number of the bumps
too many long flat sections, flat berms and random sized bumps for it to work correctly
its a real shame because you can tell its taken alot of work to build and lots of money has been spent, but its simply not a good pump track by any means
hopefully they can rebuild in the New Year and get it running properly, but its gonna take a huge amount of work!
It would be better to call it the 1%
The track is built for elite riders and fails to offer the opportunity for those of less ability to bridge the divide between simply rolling over a series bumps to being able to develop the skills needed to ride the track to its potential. At its opening, I watched elite riders skipping over moguls on their back wheel wondering what the track provided for children who will never attain those skills. Too many of the sections simply kill any speed you have built up, there should have been sections for people to accomplish and learn what is needed to progress to more challenging sections, the basic premise of any form of inclusive education is scaffolding activities to allow people to attain their potential rather than patronising them with a ‘well at least you can just roll over the bumps’….. So if this park is provided for local people it certainly fails to be inclusive.
The jump park at Learnie, the bike park at Kielder and especially the skills loop at Dalbettie are the best examples I know where riders are able to develop their skills, of course the problem is they are all more than 300 miles away, the real shame is the missed opportunity of providing something of real use to the local community.
PS it is not even a loop
