A scruffy old video shakedown of the bike Jones will be racing in the 7 day stage enduro race from Gap to Monaco
Hey look, this is really rough, and its not exactly thorough, but if anyone wants to ask questions about the bike or the event on web then I can reply to comments. For example I say there’s not many 160mm bikes out there, what I mean is there’s not many specific 160mm bikes. The Enduro, Nomad, Intense SS are good, and next year’s Saracen Ariel and Trek Slash will be real refinements on the 160mm category, something not really seen since..well the crazily named SS and way back to the Enduro of 2004 vintage, the bike that really was a benchmark for the hard hitting trail/enduro category. Funny how its taken so long to fine tune. Anyhow this vid might lack a bit of detail but it was one take and a pre-run for what hopefully will be next week’s daily updates.

The cockpit area was very clean and tidy, the sink area however was a little cluttered Steve

ha ha agree with you there jo but it was actually really interesting. actually prefer it to a pro edited vid with a wooden voiced presenter.
Good to hear about how you’ve got it set up and why you’ve done certain things.
nice vid.

@dirt dodger not as goos as Spesh you’re right
Last minute packing….Just bought some maxmuscle cyclone on the advice of Pro Ride Guide’s Joe Rafferty..why, o why …and snuck those new Straitline flat pedals in. Go steady…..
September 22nd, 2011 at 9:00 pm
@juansamwell…Thanks…What size stem to do you run?
September 22nd, 2011 at 9:18 pm
why not the trusty 914 steve? thought you were running bos 160′s? looking forward to seeing how you get on, good luck mate

Length of cranks? Enduros usually ride pretty low BB and pedal strikes can be a bit of a ball ache when tired and trying to push on in the rough stuff or going across steep slopes. No anglesets or offset bushing trickery?
Good luck.

Hey Jonesy – I’m interested in your choice to run the Lyrik. After running 160mm Talas’s and Floats for years – I recently started running a 150mm Revelation which I find 99% as good as the 36′s but at a far lower weight (and usefully lower ride height). Did you consider these?
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:23 am
@Jamie, I run a 50mm Straitline on my Medium.
@ Gravityfreak, I just had the Lyrics on mine converted to coil and the difference is unbeleavable with regards to respose. They do tend to sit a bit higher but you get U Turn included in the conversion but I have yet to use it just struggle on!!

Great stuff, all the best for the event. Would love to try to do it next year, really interested to see what its like.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:00 am
Awesome. Stick it to them Jones! Hope the Lust’s hold out for you. Mine didn’t on the same race.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:33 am
1998 just called Jones; they want their middle finger braking back…
September 23rd, 2011 at 10:53 am
Aga, belfast sink, ..that guy is living the dream!
September 23rd, 2011 at 4:32 pm
Not consider the mondraker dune? Pretty decent hard hitting enduro bike.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:33 pm
Dune’s dont climb so great frm what I found. Devinci Dixon w/44 rc3s is the one!!
September 24th, 2011 at 1:46 am
Middle finger is like 65% of your gripping power.
September 24th, 2011 at 2:32 pm
should of gone for a helius AM Jones, then you could of gone full red white and green!!
September 24th, 2011 at 2:44 pm
Interesting vid there Jonesy.
Good luck on this and looking forward to the post race report. Could be a potential race for me next year.

Just curious as to why the Giant Reign/Reign X never shows up on these round ups? (full disclosure: I’ve ridden a Giant Reign X for the last 4 years and absolutely love it)
September 25th, 2011 at 4:14 pm
Never a truer word spoken! “Sort your engine out”. Then you won’t need to worry about running the latest ti bolts! I 2nd Tom_, post the training plan!
September 25th, 2011 at 7:28 pm
Fantastic vid. Really enjoyed it.
What happened to the Deville tho?
No fittings for the VIP’R prevented that perhaps ?
Have a great trip, tell us all a bit about your training plan? can mere mortals partake of such?
September 25th, 2011 at 9:10 pm
Danny Hart changed from middle to forefinger braking during his rise to greatness. I guess we are too old! Have a good one.
September 25th, 2011 at 9:55 pm
What’s this single ply tyres and air shocks? long way to go to get flat tyres and wash out’s i’m gonna have to have a chat Joner you just made me real angry.
Good luck.

Hey,
do you need a custom link to run the Rock Shox Monarch plus damper,
or does it even fit with the normal linkage used with the Fox RP 23 damper ?
Thx
