Ty Kellett the injured rider at Weston Beach Race

October 13th, 2009 @ 6:55 PM

Okay we might be talking alot about MX bikes these days, but here is some serious news.

You might have heard that there was a horrific pile up at the Weston Beach Race last weekend. The race was stopped and a number of riders taken to hospital, I’ve just read over on Motomagazine that one of the seriously injured riders was Ty Kellett.
The older riders among you will probably have heard of his dad, Nibs Kellett, who raced downhill for years (I even bought my first downhill bike off  him) and always took his sons along Todd and Ty.

Ty looked like he had a promising career in downhill racing until he switched to motocross a number of years ago, I mean he’s only 16 now.

After the accident Ty was taken to Weston General Hospital but later moved to Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital where he was operated on but still remains unconscious.

All our thoughts at Dirt are with Ty’s family and friends and hope for a full recovery.

  5. Ty was not only an outstanding downhill rider but his family moved across to BMX a few years ago and I trained with him and lil bro Todd at Burnham Track. We heard the news tonight whilst training and all our thoughts from Burnham BMX Club go out to Ty and his family. Stay Strong buddy – we all know your a tough cookie! xxx

  6. Horrible news. Nibs is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet, and whilst I didn’t speak to his son much, I remember seeing the nipper ripping it up! My thoughts go out to Nibs and his family, I’m sure he’ll be fine!

    Love from the Newman Family.

  10. My heart goes out to Ty and his family Weston beach race is a one off event each year. The appalling weather certainly contributed to the accident and lack of beach area seemed to have less width this year.
Ty you have shown real bravery to even enter this race now you must be strong and show that bravery again.
I like all the competitors and spectators over the years have grown to look forward to this event ,long may it continue ,and I wish you all the very best you are a star.On behalf of all race goers on the IOW.
