The final round of the Nissan UCI World Cup in Schladming, Austria, turned out to be an amazing weekend. Both Greg Minnaar and Rachel Atherton did enough to take the overall DH titles, Minnaar was tentative but Atherton was in destroyer mode, taking the win by 13 seconds! Rafa Alvarez and Anneke Beerten took the 4X titles.
But the story of the weekend? Sam Hill hitting a tree and almost high siding within sight of the finish? Brendan Fairclough’s race winning run that was so spectacularly taken from him? No…it had to be young Kiwi rider Sam Blenkinsop and and his final run. Breathtaking stuff, and enough to move him up to fifth place in the overall standings. I’m already looking forward to 2009!
