Winter Digging pt1 Barry KNows Best

November 3rd, 2009 @ 1:03 PM

Part one is a “Please don’t ride here until it’s dry” notice from our SouthEast correspondant Rodeo Rod Fountain about some Surrey Hills trails.

Rodeo Rod says:

“The lads who are re-shaping the Barry Knows Best trail (legendary two minute blast in the Surrey Hills) have been on to ask if we could help them in dissuading people from riding it for a month ’till it dries out completely and they can get the digger back up there to finish it properly. They’ve spent tons of cash in getting it sorted but then all the rain we had over the weekend have meant that it’s in danger of getting fooked if it’s ridden before it’s finished and compacted.

Cheers

Rodders.”

  1. Is that May?

  2. The caption on the photo says “Mei Black” so I guess it is.

  3. Anyone know if the whole track is closed or just the bit at the bottom?

  4. Nope, just the bit Mei has been working on is closed, and that’s an entire new section to replace the fall line.
The entire trail as ridden for the past few years is completely ridable from top to bottom, including the last section of fall line, and will be until the new section is opened.

    Ben

  6. Thanks Ben

  7. just been up to see what they have been up to, and it looks AMAZING!! cant wait to get up there and ride it when its done! shame there not putting in any jumps…

  8. Phil -this one’s not my work, more the Hurtwood volunteers, Mei, Ian W and a fair chunk of dosh from the lovely people at Surrey Hills AONB. Support your local Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty. :)

  9. barry knows nothing, judging by the fact he made a ‘downhill’ run that goes uphill….

  10. any ideas when this is going to be open went up and had a look it looks awsome

  11. Hey guys,
the new section is now open. You might find that, given enough speed and skill, there are a few opportunities in there for a little air time.
Let us know what you think of the new trail – all feedback gratefully accepted – and if you like it, and want more like it, please think of supporting Hurtwood Control by becoming a Friend of the Hurtwood at http://www2.hurtwoodcontrol.co.uk/index.php/donate-now. Takes about five minutes to donate on the site, and that will support our digging efforts and the work Hurtwood does to keep everything on Holmbury, Pitch and elsewhere open for us to use.

    Cheers,
    Ben

  12. afternoon,

just thought i’d let you know i was riding up there yesterday upon my new blender, along with what must of been a good 50 other riders throughout the day. After a week of rain the new section was bone dry!

I must say what a fine job you guys have done!

    cheers

  13. Hi, I rode this on Saturday 12th Dec for the first time since the remodelling. Fantastic job. Great hairpins and nicely banked for speed. Plus it now seems to finish at the bottom of a trail I’d never noticed before that takes you back up again avoiding the road to Peaslake and most of Radnor Road.
    Many thanks.
    Dom
